Anyone have a good housework routine to stick to? I just dont find the time so a rota would be goood.

OP posts:

i have started concentrating on one room per night, Monday night bathroom, Tuesday night bedrooms, wednesday livingroom/diningroom (one room really), thursday kitchen, friday and washing and drying and sunday ironing. saturday i dont really do any housework, i only spend half a hour to forty mins per night as soon as i get in from work whilst dh makes tea. then i can relax after that

Routine? Not really.

I make sure the kitchen is clean and tidy before bed and that the living room is tidy too.

Bathroom gets a squirt round the loo and sink while I do my teeth. Hoover whole house on Saturdays and get the boys to dust then too.

DH does the garden so not much housework and the washing gets done when I have a full load.

Surface mess gets done when it's needed, everything else gets done when I bloody well feel like it.

Loo & bathroom twice weekly
Kitchen sink, cooker top and worktops-daily
Hoover - downstairs daily
Polish - once a week
Tidy - never all good at one time but try to keep lounge/diner area tidy all the time.
Kids rooms - when there's no carpet left to hoover!
washing- daily - try to stick to one person's basket at a time.
Don't iron unless necessary.

Not really a routine...

  • hoover as soon as I see dustbunnies around (crawling 5 month old), every other day or so
  • tidy children*s bedroom every night (part of bedtime routine)
  • tidy living room every night
  • washing up and kitchen clean up every night (dh does this)
  • mop all floors once a week (one week myself, the other the cleaner)
  • clean toilets every week (cleaner does not do them to my standard)
  • laundry as soon as the relevant containers are full = one load
  • iron? what iron? I dont do ironing, buy only clothes that dont need it and dh uses a service for his shirts

I routinely avoid housework.

BubbaAndBump · 31/05/2010 09:01

@ thistle Cheers to that

I've been sick in bed for the past three days and DH has looked after the girls all on his own all day (as I do every day!) - feeling well enough this morning to venture downstairs. The sight of the place is making me feel sick again!! pml - poor man thinks he's done well

But in answer to OP, I work two days a week and do washing, superficial (sp??) cleaning of the kitchen and tidy living room. On days I'm at home with the girls, washing (reusable nappies and two 'creative' girls means at least one wash a day), sweep every day, hoover and clean floors once a week and proper clean of bathroom and kitchen once a week. Dusting (!! !!) only when I can see my smileys in it!

await warning of impending arrival of visitors
then blitz entire house at lightening speed.

If we had no friends/relatives we would be living in abject squalor.
