washing a pushchair

I'm going to wash the pram/pushchair next week ready for dc3 but I don't want to land up wth a soapsudsy mess. I've thought of using clothes washing liquid (I've got ecovernonbio) but I'm worried that too much will soak in and I won't be able to rinse it out and then every time it rains it will suds up again! Would bicarb do the job? What would you use or is plain water enough?

bump - cos I'd like to know as well.

This may be silly but can the fabric seat bit come off? It is only that mine can and i was thinking of washing it on the 30 degree wool cycle and then stretching it back over when wet ...

Any brighter ideas?!

I have wasjed a lot of pushchairs and IME there are very few pushchair that have covers that can't be put in the wash. These are ones that have bits of board or something in them in which case I normally clean them in the bath with normal clothes washing liquid (I find powder harder to rinse out).

Those that are just fabric get washed in the machine on a 40 wash. I did once wash a cover that had mould on it at 60 with napisan. It was fine and came out looking pristine.

What pram have you got?

I chuck all my maclaren xt's fabrics including the hood on a cool wash and it comes up a treat.

LooL00 · 30/05/2010 19:33

Thanks everyone. it's a M and P pliko pramette and I am pretty sure I can't get the cover off as there are a couple of wierd platic rivets I really don't want to force. I got all of the Phil and Teds in the washing machine by the way!(not the frame!).

I took all the fabric bits off a Maclaren (Techno XLR???? maybe?) and washed tham at 40 with biological liquid - tried first at 30 with non-bio but this didn't get all the marks out. At second attempt it came out looking like new

themagnoliabAKery · 30/05/2010 19:46

You can unscrew the rivety parts very easily on an M&P and it can all go in washing machine at 30-40c

LooL00 · 30/05/2010 19:50

Thanks themagnolia, I've unscrewed the metal rivets but there's 2 plastic rivets with no screw head that I can't work out how to undo.I really don't want to break them!

themagnoliabAKery · 30/05/2010 20:55

Where are they? I know on my Aria there was a push in button kind of plastic thing that just pops out?

HeadFairy · 30/05/2010 20:59

I bleached my Bebe Confort Loola because our garage leaked and it went all mouldy. I chose a sunny warm day and sat with a bucket of bleachy water and a scourer and scrubbed all over. I then hosed it thoroughly down and left it in the sun all day. It came up perfectly and no bleach markings at all.

LooL00 · 31/05/2010 10:59

The plastic rivets are right under the seat, themagnolia I've undone some at the sides that slide and then push out but these seem more permanent. The actual cover has got hard panels in it but I think I can cram it in the washing machine if I can get it off. I'll have another go and if not I'll do what headfairy suggests and hose it down when I've finished. Thanks for all your suggestions everyone.

Does any one no if you can put the quinny zapp seat and hood in the washing machine? Got mine out from under the stairs this morning and its full of mold!! Thanks in advance x

tutu100 · 01/06/2010 12:43

2littlemonkeys I have washed my zapp seat cover in the machine fine, but I didn't risk the hood, I washed that by hand in the bath.

The only problem I found with washing the seat unit is the Zapp logo washed off, but it was rubbing off anyway. Beware though they are a complete pain to get back on the frame!

2littlemonkeys · 01/06/2010 15:28

tutu100, thanks for that, i was a bit worried in case it was cardboard? in the seat bit, will give it a try. Logos are nearly off anyway as it was dd2 buggy.

LooL00 · 03/06/2010 16:35

just to say i DID manage to get the cover off my M and P and it's washed and smells lovely. Just hope I can get it back on again!
