DH washed a sticker on dd's fleece

...one of those big ones from the dentist, and it's left an extremely large, sticky square behind.

Where do I start getting it out?

There is a product called Sticky Stuff remover. It is very good. Lovely smell of oranges too. Not sure where you can get it, perhaps Homebase.

if that doesn't work, it will come out with repeated washing.

unbeknown to me, DD stuck a giant Sportacus on my boyfriend cardi , and about 5 washes later the sticky marks have now gone.

Yeah I second sticky stuff remover, Lakeland sell it and sometimes Waitrose have it in store. Had a fleece with a sticker on and washed it about 10 times but didnt come off - friend gave me sticky stuff and it came straight off!
