Help me find a replacement for my ULTIMATE laundry basket.

NARGH Argos have stopped doing the STUPENDOUS laundry basket I have and mine is starting to fall apart (despite superglue and nail repair jobs) and I can't find anything nearly as good online.

Basically it is a sturdy light pine frame with two square linen bags hanging on a square frame that slide in and out (one for lights and one for darks) so you just take the bag you need to the washing machine. The top of the laundry basket is a shelf which we use for our clean towels and bedding etc.

I am trying to find a replacement but can't find anything nearly as good - it needs two baskets for lights and darks and a shelf not a lift up lid (as we can't put anything on top!)

I got mine in ARGOS for about £15 and it has lasted us a good few years and only falling apart because we have a lot of heavy laundry! I really want another one- can the wonder of mumsnet help?

Sounds absolutely ace.

We might have to go to China

hobnob57 · 25/05/2010 21:22

Would this do? Not sure what size yours was... Whatever it was, I want one too. But not 1000 of them, which is what we'd have to buy from China

Thandeka · 26/05/2010 09:44

aww cheers hobnob57 for trying! It isn't two tier- the two square baskets are side by side which means the shelf is nice and long (maybe a metre?) for all our crap clean sheets on the shelf. I will try and take a pic at some point and put it on my profile if I can work out how. I like the M&S one but it would create a giant tower of clean sheets and towels on top so we really need a wide one!

hmm will keep googling! and if I find 1000 of them we will just have to get 1000mumsnetters to get the ultimate laundry basket too!

So it's sort of like this but freestanding with a shelf and made in pine with two white linen baskets

not quite what you describe but it is freestanding

still can't find one with a shelf

they're quite a bit more expensive too, sorry

Downdog · 26/05/2010 10:01

Have you tried IKEA?
I had a huge built in wardrobe in an old flat that had this same laundry system built into it. It was totally fantastic. It was a modular piece so you may be able to buy laundry system on its own?

Thanks guys- i may be remembering the price with rose tinted glasses! I suppose worst case is i buy a double one like that and put a shelf up but that seems a bit daft.

or i dream of organised giant fitted wardrobes......

Maybe you could fix yours?
I've fixed loads of things with these little metal right angles from focus. Or you could brace it with strips of wood or something.(that next one looks good though)

Thandeka · 01/06/2010 09:44

oooh like the sound of those metal right angle things- will have to have a rummage. Have fixed it twice now with nails and "no more nails" but maybe a third fix would do it. Would much rather keep it than buy another one as it seems wasteful- the next one looks great but with a lack of shelf the untidy tower neatly folded sheets would have to find a new home.

We are hopefully moving soon- then i can dream of fitted wardrobes (nice not naff ones) with inbuilt laundry sorting drawers.
