Try the slatterns thread it helps me.
Although I feel just like you today.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 16/05/2010 15:39

Slatterns for me too

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 16/05/2010 15:41

Or Flylady.
MN is the enemy of the organised house, though.

nickschick · 16/05/2010 15:43

Go visit a friend with a super tidy house that always motivates me or look through a house magazine -that practically shames me .

unltd · 16/05/2010 16:31

well starting the thread motivated me to do some washing and tidy the kitchen

I have looked at the slatterns thread but everyone seems to be friends so it felt a bit like gatecrashing

lol at MN being the enemy

Invite people (adults, not children!) over to your house for lunch/dinner/coffee.

I find nothing motivates me to clean/tidy more than an impending home-hosted date with friends.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/05/2010 16:40

I have a routine

It's because I hate housework, so I break it down into "rooms" and do one or two thoroughly each day, plus general other stuff

Means that I grit my teeth and get on with the set task for the day (usually takes 40mins-1hr), then do another half hour hoovering etc after dinner. Also means if I look at something and realise it needs doing, I can console myself with the fact it will get done tomorrow/in 2 days!

Works for me, although I concede it may be a bit sad!

Spatchadoodledo · 16/05/2010 16:40

I am shattered today, but the thought of an organised house makes me motivated..have just finished tidying the toy room! The boys are under threats of it being messy again!

mollymax · 16/05/2010 16:47

I normally feel exactly the same, but I am feeling rather smug this week (wink)as I have managed to declutter all 3 of the dd's bedrooms...doing one room does motivate you to continue....just hope the charity collector does come tomorrow as promised! Good luck.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 16/05/2010 17:05

We are friends on slatterns but we aren't cliquey, promise! Newcomers always welcome

unltd · 16/05/2010 17:51

ok will brave the Slatterns tomorrow

just dont know where to start

do I list everything that needs doing or just what I want to do tomorrow?

I think this is my biggest problem, too much thinking and not enough doing

Yay! We like new people, gives us extra oomph!

You can do your list however you want, we all do it diferently. Either list absolutely everything that needs doing and mark it off once done or just list what you are realistically going to get done, or anything inbetween. When I really don't know where to start I just list 3 things and get those done before even thinking about anything else-helps stop the flitting between half finished jobs

Hope that helps...

There's also a fledgling flyers thread if you want to take things more slowly, and you can just focus on the baby steps if you want to. You'd be welcome to join us there Jajas; I don't want to speak for the others, but I'm not organised or experienced at all.

LinzerTorte · 20/05/2010 09:00

Sorry, unltd - forgot to say that you would of course be most welcome to join us on the fledgling flyers thread too - it certainly helped me get more motivated, though I must admit I still struggle some days...

admylin · 20/05/2010 09:56

I sometimes can't be bothered to do the basics even!
I should /want to join the flying thread but some of those lists are scarey, do they realise how much they are trying to fit into one day?!
At the moment my excuse is that we move in July so there is no point doing much as it'll all have to be packed soon anyway. Suppose the breakfast stuff does need to be cleared away before the next meal though.

ellasmum1 · 20/05/2010 10:11

me too, i'm so lazy.I just find housework so demoralizing because it gets filthy again within 2 days!will have a look at slatterns thread..

LinzerTorte · 20/05/2010 10:13

We discussed our lists on the fledgling flyer thread a while back and I think most people admitted they rarely managed to do them... But I agree that some of the lists do look very scary and make me feel quite inadequate!
I do find I achieve slightly more when I make a list though - I haven't got round to it so far today (too busy being distracted by MN with work) but think I need to make one soon to get myself motivated!

ConnorTraceptive · 20/05/2010 10:15

I definatel find inviting others over motivates me. MIL is coming today that's like motivation red bull
