I am completely flumoxed by the choices...
Does anyone have a steam generator iron?
Which one? Any NOT to buy?
Do I really have to faff around with replacement cartridges?

Have a look at the Philips Steam Generator Iron product test thread (currently stickied at the top of Active Conversations). Several of us were given a Philips Steam Generator iron and went to a demo and have posted feedback. Come and ask a few questions - but bear in mind we will be all fairly new users and will only know about the Philips.

No varied experience. However I bought a cheap non-branded one about 3 years ago because it was on a staff special deal-it was only about £50. It's been brilliant and is still going strong. No filters appear to be in it so I just buy de-ionised water.
Tbh, I wouldn't go back to a traditional steam iron now, it's so much quicker
