Anyone got a water softener

We have moved into a house that has a built in water softener. I have no idea how they work except I know that you have to keep it topped up with salt which we have been doing. I have no idea what the electronic display numbers or how to adjust/work it properly. Is this something I should get serviced? The previous occupants have left us nothing

Have you googled make and model for instructions??

We have a salt softener - it doesn't have any displays, but we replace the salt blocks every 6 weeks or so. When we had it fitted, I don't recall the fitter telling us about repairs or servicing.

If you can harden yourself to sales patter, would phoning a local water softening installer be any help?

we have just moved into a house with one too, and am also mystified.

our landlords are very well organised though, so will have a hunt around to see if they left an instructionmanual and get back to you.
