Salt compartment in dishwasher

Have moved to an area of very hard water so have had to use the salt compartment in the dishwasher for the first time. I filled it up about 2 weeks ago, and tonight thought I would check how it was doing so tried to open the salt compartment hatch in the floor of the washer. I cant get it open - does it only open when it is empty and need refilling? When I filled it the compartment hatch opened fine, now it only opens a smidgeon.

Mine has a twist lid so not sure I can be of much help, but a red light comes on when mine needs filling up ( I use my dishwasher twice a day) and only have to top up with salt about every 6 weeks so yours is probably fine

In the floor of your dishwasher there will probably be a big round lid type thing. Mine lifts up but as election said hers is a twist lid. I got a bag of Calgonit (sp) salt and just poured about half the bag in. Was my first time doing so, so just hoped for the best re. the amount.

I live in a very hard water area too, and was told years ago by a repair guy to top up the salt bit weekly as that is what really does for a dw round our parts

right ok will get some salt and let you know how i get on!

Your glasses will go a bit foggy if the salt is low. I have a light that alerts me to it also.

my glasses have come up lovely so far, it was second nad so not had it long. will look for mr salt compartment now
