We have a dining room that is becoming a haven for junk. We eat on the kitchen table, so the table in the dining room which we are saving for a theorectical dinner party is just covered in all kinds of papers, toys, ebay stuff and so on.
The room is pretty small (a table with 6 people sat round would have you breathing in to let people past), has the arch to the hall and the boiler cupboard on one side, an outside door on the next, the window next and the arch to the kitchen on the final wall, so not loads of space, but too much to waste, iyswim.
In our house we have me (sahm with a very very small ebay sideline), DP (works full time) and 2 preschool DDs. We already have a playroom of sorts as we keep the messy play stuff in a kind of conservatory thing that has brilliant light (as if good light makes a difference to toddler "art"). We are considering home education for the DDs and me and DP are quite bookish I suppose.
I was considering a library/study- moving the computer and printer in there, putting some of the books there (we have too many books, they wouldn't all fit) and some stoarge boxes for ebay (technically I am meant to use the garage, which I do for most stuff, but the stuff actaully on sale atm I like to have to hand so I can see it without having to go out in the cold) but would that be the best use of the space? Maybe a art and craft room, put the kids arty stuff in the same place as my sewing stuff and maybe the musical instruments (that nobody can play). Maybe a proper playroom, make it all really safe so I can put the baby in there when she can crawl so I can cook or whatever and she is safe?
House is rented, so we can't do anything drastic.
What do you think?
