Unblocking bathtub drain

lauradina · 04/05/2010 12:26

I've been having problems with my bathtub drain and have used Domestos Sink & Pipe Unblocker successfully a few times before, but maybe the grime has gotten tougher or there is something more serious going on because I just used it yesterday and the water is still taking long to drain. Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

TIA

Boiling hot water might be useful, can you get to the pipework?

Plumber with a camera.

Caustic soda??? You'd have to buy a box of crystals and read the instructions carefully - twice! They are, as the name suggests, caustic - but my mum uses them in her kitchen sink if it gets blocked. She is a proper fearless battleaxe though, so research how safe they are first!!!

We tried everything on our bathroom sink, and the only thing that shifted it was a plunger.

I'll try the caustic soda and plunger and if it fails, plumber with a camera it is!

Thanks for the tips.

Soda crystals and boiling water works everytime for me. I use it in my kitchen sink as well and it gets rid of any lingering smells.

Try plunger first. Don't use nasty chemicals and then, when they haven't worked, go at it with the plunger - you coul find yourself being splashed by the chemicals that haven't drained away, or breathing concentrated fumes.

I second plunger and soda crystals. It's good to chuck some soda crystals at the drain every so often if it regularly gets slow, as a preventative.

Oh, that is a really good tip PrettyCandles! I hadn't thought of the chemicals splashing out at me. Thanks
