Is it possible to get permanent marker out of clothes?

DD (4) came home in one of her new school summer dresses last week with 3 splodges of black felt tip/marker pen down the front. It's not washable pen - I've tried. (God only know why they think it's appropriate to give Reception kids permanent pens to play with but that's probably a whole other AIBU thread!)

Is there anything that will get it out?

I fear the clue's in the name. Have you googled?

If you find out, please let me know. My Ds in yr7 seems to get permanent marker on every blinking shirt he has! grrr!!!

I think the clue is in the name as beammeup says. You know she can still wear a dress with pen on it right? It won't hurt her! Or colour in the rest of the dress to match? She will grow out of it soon enough I wouldn't stress

Had to at 'I fear the clue is probably in the name' but was hoping for some amazing revelations from fellow MNers! You're quite right, Hellbent - it won't hurt just bloody annoying that it got stained on the first wear. I must remind myself that the dress only cost £3 from Sainsbury's - I've made far more costly wardrobe mistakes in my time!

If you treat it with specialist pen/biro/felt tip remover before you wash it then it gets 95% of it off, however if you've already washed item it is doomed I'm afraid.

I think it's Dr Bekhams and a stain devil one that I've used.

We have pink school dresses so not available cheaply, M&S expensive is about as cheap as it gets

I'm following this with great interest after just discovering my angelic-looking 2y/o has drawn all over my superposh new bedlinen with a permanent marker.

Luckily, I'm too much of a slob to have washed in yet so I might be in luck.

I never did the dabbing technique just put it on in vast quantities and work it in vigorously with my nails.

I have washed said dress so it probably has had it. I might buy some stain devil anyway and give it a go - with a 4 yo and a 2yo in the house, I'm sure it'll get used at some point. (Seem to remember getting through a bottle of the stuff when DH's trousers went through a wash and tumble dry with a biro in the pocket).

Oh, Beautiful - I feel your pain, £3 dress v insignificant next to posh bedlinen!
