May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Ditto, Chairmum. I am finally starting to feel motivated now that I only have about 15 minutes before I need to pick up the DC...

SR Excellent point re registering to vote, as another election doesn't look entirely unlikely. I've just printed out the forms, but despite the fact that the "details required are simple" I have already got stuck filling them in. Think I will need to e-mail them...

So, updated list:
Morning routine done
Washing done
Send translation done
Mission done
Decluttering
Afternoon routine
DD1 to first communion rehearsal done
e-mail electoral registration office

elliepac · 06/05/2010 15:59

Today is Thursday. Today is my danger day. Today is the day when I always feel like doing nothing and invariably do nothing. Today will NOT be like a normal Thursday. Today, I will not collapse in a heap, today, I shall fly.

List will go like this:-

VOTE
Pick DS up from school choir
Pick DD up from DMum's
Tidy downstairs
Washing up
Cook dinner
Buy washing powder and nappies
Hope DH is in a better mood this evening
Have a bath
Do round-up
Post links

Then, and only then, can I collapse in a heap!

Back later am going to do the first threee things on my list. Unfortunately as I type I still haven't decided who to vote for!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 06/05/2010 16:20

You can do it, ellie! I have also been flagging far too often in the evenings lately, so maybe we need to revive our challenge...

elliepac · 06/05/2010 19:31

Right, I think danger day has been averted.

VOTE done
Pick DS up from school choir done
Pick DD up from DMum's done
Tidy downstairs done
Washing up done
Cook dinner takeaway
Buy washing powder and nappies done
Hope DH is in a better mood this evening heis
Have a bath
Do round-up
Post links

Result of this is an almost presentable house which is at least workable on.

Back later for round-up. linzer I challenge you .

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 06/05/2010 19:42

Routines been done, toddler asleep (in my bed but one step at a time) and house is basically in good order I haven't let anyone annoy me today, and haven't worn myself out!

Just eaten some lovely chocolate cake and sipping a cup of tea. I will soon be in bed

I call that a good day!

LinzerTorte · 06/05/2010 20:17

Chocolate cake and tea sounds lovely, Chairmum. And well done on averting the danger ellie - I will take you up on your challenge!

Done tonight:
Got DC to bed (but far later than I'd have liked)
Sent e-mail re registering as an overseas voter (also rather too late...)
Tidied up most of the chaos downstairs
Put washing away
Dishwasher on

Just need to shine sink now - and if I'm quick, I might even manage to be in bed by 9.30 for once!

elliepac · 06/05/2010 20:33

Evening all,

Round-up time .

chairmum sounds like a productive day and what a lovely way to end it! I call that a good day too .

pa How are you feeling? Hope the coughing has subsided. Sorry but I had to laugh at your DH stroking his bike! Put your foot down re: the others. We all need space for pile of stuff! Good luck with getting up for election night.Would quite like to stay up but clearly have work so will settle for getting up a little earlier than usual to catch up over coffee and toast!

biddy busy day! Hope you manage to tear yourself away from tv and get to bed!

nettie speaking as one who has a DH who think fairies come in the night and do everything, I truly do know how you feel. Hope you managed to get it sorted it out.

missb jazz cafe evening sounds lovely .

dwm impressive list today! Well done you!

intravenous debris cleared yet? Lots of shrapnel round my end but major pieces removed. .

sc did the kick up the rear end work? We all have cba days (me more than most), don't stress, just hop back in tomorrow with babysteps, that's what they are there for!

linzer see above . Did you get the electoral registration sorted? Shame about the headache, I almost prefer a hangover to a normal headache, at least pleasure has been had to offset the pain .

Hello to everyone else pmpy om (or should that be Mrs Von Trapp good luck with the election party), gormers, diva mm mrsd dem and sr. Have a good evening everyone. May be back later if I succumb to staying up to watch first results!

OP posts:
elliepac · 06/05/2010 20:39

Hello everyone,

Today's babystep is Putting Clothes Out. Speaking from bitter personal experience, this one does work because when you start doing it and then forget to do it, chaos ensues! Just 5 mins at the end of the day makes allthe difference to those hectic mornings.

Remember to keep on shining your sink, getting dressed as soon as you get up and putting out one hotspot per day. And well done for getting this far!

The mission is here.

Have a good day!

Nettiespagetti · 06/05/2010 21:48

Nite everyone, had eventful day and typed on mess and it got lost. Been at hosp all nite with. DS he fine all good!

Catch up tomorrow with our new parliament whoever that may be in situ. Enjoy election coverage anyone who is mad staying up to watch it!

MrsDinky · 06/05/2010 21:52

Evening all,

Well, the one babystep I do absolutely stick to is the putting out clothes one, if not for me then at least for the DCs. Have been doing theirs ever since I went back to work and swear by it. Used to do it for me when I worked, don't always bother now as I know that thanks to Flying there will always be something I can stick on with my jeans.

Had a busy day, not sure how much FLying but still, let's see.

Morning routine - done
Evening routine - done
Helped at school this afternoon - done
Gym - done
WAshing - done
Labelling MORE stuff for NCT sale - done
found some missing parts for the pushchair sold yesterday - done, oops.
Trip to tip and Sainsburys - done
Bath and basin - scrubbed
No MN till 6pm - done
Vote - done
Go to pub on way home from voting - done

Took the DCs to the Polling station. DS wants Blue to win, DD wants Red. DS marched up to the lady in charge and demanded to know who was going to win. We live in true blue territory here, poor DD has been searching in vain for a red poster for about 3 weeks, plenty of blue and orange ones. I suspect DS will get his wish.

I have read all your posts, briefly, am not going to start individual mentions now as I want to do a couple of other things before sitting down to watch the swingometer, so waves goodnight to everyone, see you tomorrow.

MiniMarmite · 06/05/2010 22:05

Only one important thing to do today :

VOTE - DONE

Wonder what tomorrow will bring.

FLYing went quite well today too, even managed to make scones and bread on a work day!

for any breadmakers (or even non-breadmakers out there) try this no knead bread pretty good for relatively little effort.

Thanks for your encouraging posting of babysteps etc Ellie - putting out clothes is a must in this house.

Night all x

swanriver · 06/05/2010 22:10

Terrible day FLYWISE (kids at home can't seem to integrate them into routines any more), but otherwise just about got through. As I'm going off tomorrow Dh will have to live with the consequences and the kids till Sat (laughscynically)

Decluttered a bag of clothes though
and had lots of outdoor exercise with kids (no school today)
bought First Communion invites
made them all practise
also went to a communion meeting in eve
and have found an outfit for confirmation tomorrow
plane first thing tomorrow!

sitting with dh watching election now, always find it too emotional. I voted! Seeing all the old people voting is v. humbling isn't it?

feetheart · 07/05/2010 06:41

Not managed to post much over past few days but have managed to catch up most days. I have no hope of keeping up if you lot keep chatting so much

Getting back on Flying waggon but it seems slow going. Late night and early morning here so not planning to do too much but today want to do:

  • Morning routine
  • DS and friend to Mini-nastics
  • Gardening with DS and friend - plant potatoes and various seeds and find the bl**dy slugs/snails in cold frame
  • Clean front door and porch
  • Afternoon/evening routines
  • DD to dancing

That will do!
Will try and get on later if children entertain themselves nicely. Have a good day everyone

Nettiespagetti · 07/05/2010 07:14

Good morning. Been up on an off with DCs and felt insane curiosity about the count so got stuck watching!

Today busy day so
dc breakfast dress nursery
me work
pick DC up
playdate all afternoon
ocado shopping coming
evening routine bed

have calmed down re DH lazy ass laundry Pile but still being petty and not doing it. Probably last till he manages to put in first load and I'll end up doing the rest!!

linzer omg Austrian parenting style sounds manic!
*chairmum sorry ur H is having a go, hope u ok
intravenous and ellie pa lol at ur bombsite spread!
sc u were not the only one disenfranchised we done that to huge group of voters too

waves to everyone. Have good day!

Have to rescue DH as his turn to give Dc breakfast and they both screaming!! Hey ho!!

LinzerTorte · 07/05/2010 07:56

Morning all,

DS complaining of a stomach ache, so I've kept him at home this morning and am not sure how much flying I'll manage to get done. I think I'll just make a short list for this morning and see how far I can get with it:

Unpack shopping
Morning routine
Mission
15 min declutter in dining "room"

Felt quite guilty yesterday as I kept seeing all the posts that so-and-so has voted pop up on Facebook... I should have got organised much earlier. But I have e-mailed Westminster (electoral registration office, not parliament!) about my registration and who knows - maybe I'll be able to vote this year after all. Although I wish I could vote in my parents' constituency, where I think my vote would count for more than in true blue Westminster.

DS now complaining that he's hungry - back later...

biddyofsuburbia · 07/05/2010 08:06

Morning - no time to read everyone's posts - will do later and catch up! Most of list done yesterday including car valet - thank goodness and DH noticed! (hard not to) Stayed up way too late waiting for results & v. tired & behind now. Pilates good except for the exercise which made me feel like a playmobile man! Big waves to everyone!

PositiveAttitude · 07/05/2010 08:27

Good morning all,

Nettie good luck with holding out re the washing. Stronger woman than me!!!

Linzer - Hope DS's tummy doesn't give you too much trouble today.

SC & Ellie - My 2 allies for the longest on here!! Perhaps you think that I am joking/exaggerating about my bike stroking DH. Unfortunately, I am not!! Those flippin bikes get more stroking than me!!! (DH plain bonkers, not me, of course ) DH did a 3 hour ride last evening, so he is fully recovered from sniffles and back to normality.

I went to bed expecting to be awake half the night, as in previous nights and thought I would get up about 3am to follow the nights excitement. The one night I wanted to be awake and I slept like a baby til 4.45!! Been up since then, hacking cough driving me mad now!! Dont know how on earth I am going to function at work today, but hairdressers at lunchtime should relax me. (Probably fall asleep in the chair!)

List for today:
Sandwiches -Done
Kitchen tidied Done
Dishwasher unloaded Done
Dishwasher loaded Done
Work - job No 1 (2 hours)
Work - job No 2 (2 hours)
Walk through town without spending money
Hairdressers
Back home for a quick collapse before starting round 2!
Bake cake for the hoardes of teenagers that will descend throughout the afternoon and evening.
Cook Tea. - toad in the hole
Hoover
Do some paperwork with DD3 that we really must get done (have been procrastinating for far too long with this!)

Blimey, didn't realise the time .... must now move butt in direction of work.

See you all soon

LinzerTorte · 07/05/2010 10:03

DS now back to his normal mischievous self (almost falling out of window, almost cutting up Kindergarten photo, etc) and wanting to go back to Kiga (he has been walking round with his Kiga rucksack on his back and I have just heard the front door slam). I, on the other hand, have another headache, have got nothing done and am waiting for an urgent job that was supposed to arrive 15 minutes ago (DD1 will be out of school in 50 minutes).

PA Your list puts mine to shame. I wouldn't feel quite so bad if I'd actually managed to achieve anything on my list.

Now reviving myself with a coffee (and hoping it won't make headache worse).

optimisticmumma · 07/05/2010 10:18

Morning all!

Stayed up far too late last night watching the results and as a consequence feel knackered today! However I must get off my bum and do something as laundry chaos is descending like an ash cloud!

Party was great fun and kids came up with great ideas - ukipper pate being one...Had far too many Gordon and tonics though!

We did a sweepstake for number of Tory seats and am now keeping an eye on it to see who gets the dosh!!

So today:
Ironing
Take washing to launderette (WM sounds terrible)
Card and pressie for DNephew
Mini shop
Meeting at school

Talking of the over 40s dare I say that I too was an O level person and am going to see Joan Armatrading tonight!

Better go and get on....

DidEinsteinsMum · 07/05/2010 14:14

Morning. Had and early night and returned to bed to shift migraine. I see the secret mess bomber is spreading over the country attacking at will. Not sure what happened here. today's list is short, blissfully short:

pick up fishing line order from local shop for ex,
pack for ds going to dad's
feed ds
drive 2hrs to drop him off mid way to dads (his dad meeting there)
drive back.
if up to it might skate,
else early night

got lots done yesterday but not enough as hit a brick wall at 3pm. coincidetally coinsiding with ds coming out of school in a shinking mood,

but as it is now 2:15pm and i have to get to shop and back again for three I shall wave now and may or may not appear later depending.

Hope you are all well and we can catch this nasty mess bomber who is terrorising the country soon.

elliepac · 07/05/2010 16:17

Afternoon all and thank the lord it's Friday!

Not much doing today, will do a general clear up tonight but that is about it but seeing as I didn't have my normal Thursday meltdown it is not too bad.

pa I am really sorry if I have upset you by making light of the 'bike ' situation. Maybe more sheds are the answer?

dem at nasty mess bomber. Should we do a photofit to see if anyone can catch him? Maybe we could contact Crimewatch .

ANyway, post work cuppa calling.

Back later.

PositiveAttitude · 07/05/2010 17:03

Oh Ellie, dont put a next to my name! I am positive afer all! We do have plans to have another shed built, specifically for the "Darlings". I would not be at all surprised if DH ordered central heating for it, just to keep them warm and happy!

I have survived til now, so a better day than expected at one time! I suspect this could have something to do with the lorry load of diet coke consumed, which nicely washed down a gorgeous (and very large) cream cake! I swear it was the fact that I was so exhausted it took less energy to mumble "MMmmm" than to say "That looks absolutely scrummy, but I think I had better say no, thank you very much!" That's my excuse, anyway!

Sandwiches -Done
Kitchen tidied Done
Dishwasher unloaded Done
Dishwasher loaded Done
Work - job No 1 (2 hours) -Done
Work - job No 2 (2 hours) - Done - But oh HARD work to stay awake while putting accounts into the computer! (Probably have a mess to sort out next week from all the mistakes I am sure I have done!!)
Walk through town without spending money Done More because I was late, so no time for looking!!
Hairdressers Done - Oooooh lovely light head / swing hair feeling. WOrth every penny!
Back home for a quick collapse before starting round 2! - Done - Not so good at the "quick" collapse - got told off for snoring while DD and boyfriend watched a film!!
Bake cake for the hoardes of teenagers that will descend throughout the afternoon and evening. -Done ready and half eaten by onslaught number 1, second battalion expected at 6pm!
Cook Tea. - toad in the hole - Ready to go in the oven.
Hoover
Do some paperwork with DD3 that we really must get done (have been procrastinating for far too long with this!) - you have got to be kidding. Always tomorow!

OM - DD1 failed her driving test today. Already booked another for a few weeks. Does your DS have another date yet?

Manic waves to everyone. See you all later.

biddyofsuburbia · 07/05/2010 18:50

Evening all!

PA Congrats on a brilliant day & for having fab hair!
DEM hope you've managed to have stern words with the mess bomber, his little friend the paper monster has been at work this week in this house.
OM glad your election party was a success!
Linzer glad DS feeling better!

I have had a non-productive day flying wise but I have:
-Been to gym to try power-plate and booked session for next week. Instructor claims it is great for cellulite, from personal experience .
-been to 'post-election' coffee morning. Nice cake!
-Sorted DS's social life he's nearly 6. what happened to my social life?

  • put colour on my roots as neglected to book hair appt. and past the point of vaguely ok! Managed not to get all over face like last time !

Intend to do the babystep of laying out clothes (thanks ellie! from now on, DH does this (as he has to be up and out for 6:20 am) and has been nagging me to do it for ages!

Have a great evening all - I think I'll cook supper (pasta arrabiatta, lazy but will taste good) watch ashes to ashes, read book, sleeeeep! maybe a tiny glass of vino

Nettiespagetti · 07/05/2010 19:47
