May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

I forgot the brolly and got rather damp at the ag show. It didn't help that my wellies leaked and i had cold wet feet all day too! Had fun though.

Have done naff all flying as i have only just got DD2 to sleep but the house doesn't look too awful.

The proper list making will begin in ernest on Monday. Tomorrow i will just be aiming for laundry related activities and checking out the babysteps!

See you in the morning!

DidEinsteinsMum · 09/05/2010 01:08

Evening. I am a little late to bed, and was totally does up on meds early but went out. Training was fun, and a bit of a laught but have taken a knock to the knee. suspect it will blown up and bruise nicely. But cant think of a better way to celebrate a birthday. Training tonight, hopefully coffee (read soft drink) with friend tomo and skating again monday night. Got skating double lesson tuesday. want to work on the jump so will probably look completely battered by the weekend. Ah well i enjoy myself.

Am not going to read through. My brain is fried tonight. Hope you are all tucked up safe and asleep.

Night all!

DidEinsteinsMum · 09/05/2010 07:33

coffee and teas up, birthday cake in cake tin. enjoy!

elliepac · 09/05/2010 07:41

Morning all,

Whoops! fell asleep last night ridiculously early last night so didn't post step .

Today's babystep is decluttering. This is all about adding a 5 min room rescue into your morning routine with a quick declutter.

No mission today so enjoy your weekend!

I do believe it dem's birthday, yes? Shall we all sing...Happy Birthday to you, Happy BIrthday to you.... .

Ooo happy bithday to you happy birthday to you dear dem happy birthday yo you! Any birthday plans? T

DidEinsteinsMum · 09/05/2010 08:27

boy free this morning. went skating last night, going skating tomo night and have a double lesson booked for tuesday. Other then that hopefully catch up with a friend for coffee softdrink and collect the boy.

then probably bake birthday cake with him and deal with his excitement on my behalf. he nearly exploded when i spoke to him yesterday. He had been out buying my birthday present. I know it smells of lavender (cos he checked i wasnt allergic to it) and it is pretty. It will be interseting to see what matches that description

ANyone got any nice plans for the weekend?

biddyofsuburbia · 09/05/2010 08:46

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DEM!!!! sorry, bit loud for sunday morning! Cake for breakfast - yum - thanks! Skating? Ice variety? Sounds like fun! purple glad ag show was good fun, I used to go to lots as a child, you've made me nostalgic!

Morning all. Today's agenda for me:

declutter kitchen
make roast chicken for lunch
take DH/DS to station as they are going to DS's first big football match with some friends
entertain DD all afternoon - feel some arts & crafts coming on
Washing - make sure all uniform clean
Tidy our bedroom.

When is it going to warm up?

LinzerTorte · 09/05/2010 09:03

Good morning, and happy birthday to DEM - hope you have a lovely day and enjoy the cake baking!

It's Mother's Day here today so we've just been out for breakfast and are now going out for an ice cream (at the DC's insistence; it's slightly too cold for me to indulge but I'm sure I can manage another coffee!). At least it's not raining, so DD1 will be going to the postponed llama trekking/birthday party this afternoon - while DH swans off to Berlin (wish I could go with him, but we will all be going next month).

Happy Mother's Day to SC and hope everyone else has a good day too!

Nettiespagetti · 09/05/2010 09:04

dem sounds lovely!! Aw I love it the excitement on my birthday for my Ds was the cake!!

Have lovely time

elliepac · 09/05/2010 10:31

Morning all,

Rather a fraught morning because DC's are killing each other and therefore I feel rather like killing them! Have deposited DS in his bedroom with Playstation and Eyetoy and DD in living room with Peppa Pig in the vain hope that separation will work. Days like this I really wish I had a bigger house!

Not much done here yet but am going to get cracking in a moment. It is a lovely sunny day here if a bit nippy so we have decided to take DC's out to local farm park for a couple of hours this afternoon and then grab something to eat at local pub. So I want to get squared up before we go out so when we get back we can just bath and bed the children and then relax!

List looks like this:-

Washing
15 min room rescue in every room downstair
Washing up
Lunch
CLothes away

Have a good day everyone, partcularly dem.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEM!!!

I'm so of your skating lessons! I have visions of you doing your jump! Enjoy!

Had a quiet day here. Done the ironing after rescuing the washing from various friend's houses! Sorted out school for tomorrow. Bought tiles for the kitchen. That's abought it!It's been really cold and miserable here so we haven't felt like doing anything today...
See you all tomorrow.....x

elliepac · 09/05/2010 20:03

Back again! Today's babystep is the power of 15!. I actually think this is a really important point. From a personal point of view as someone who doesn't have a lot of time during the weeks in particular, this one works. I may not have the energy to do 2 hours cleaning of a night, but 15 min? Yeah, I can do that. And they all add up!

This week we are in the Kitchen and our mission today is here.

Keep on with the babysteps and consolidating your routines and decluttering if necessary.

Have a good day everyone!

Happy birthday DEM and Happy Mother's DAY Linzer and SC.

Cold here too, not freezing, OK to be outside if moving about but nor for sitting around. I feel much better today though.

DCs decided they didn't want to go out today, so they have had a pyjama day, and have played really nicely all day, indeed have hardly seen DD, she has been playing with her teddies all day. I have been doing more decluttering, and just general tidying really. Bit of gardening, and went for a walk for half an hour by myself just to get out of the house for a bit.

I really am spending too much time on MN, so I have decided to hide some of the topic areas that I spend a lot of time reading but don't tend to contribute to, such as AIBU! Will see if it works. I probably ought to just hide everything except Good Housekeeping really. Hmmm.

See you all tomorrow.

MiniMarmite · 09/05/2010 21:10

Have a good week ladies. I'm off on holiday in the morning (well, if we ever get packed anyway). x

droitwichmummy · 09/05/2010 21:58

Happy birthday DEM and happy Mothers' Day SC and linzer!

Have a great holiday MM. See you next week.

Not consciously done much flying today but kitchen is pretty clear just need to turn DW and WM on before I go up to bed. Only ironing to be done is what dried today so that can wait until tomorrow.

uick coffee and off to bed for me. See you tomorrow

missbennett · 09/05/2010 22:39

Happy birthday DEM hope you've had a good day. Also Mother's day for those celebrating it.
minim what recipe do you use for malt loaf? I've never made it but DD1 and I are very partial to it!

Right well, I've kept the washing going, done Sunday School and coffee after church, taken DD2 to confirmation class, delivered the Christian Aid envelopes and shined the sink

Haven't done the work work I needed to do this weekend so feel a bit stressed about that but will try and get in early tomorrow.

Hope all the poorly people are recovering. See you all tomorrow.

MiniMarmite · 09/05/2010 23:11

I've never made it before either MissB as my Mum often makes it for me but I've used her recipe this time (imperial meaures unfortunately):

8oz SR flour
2oz ovaltine
5oz mixed dried fruit
2oz sugar
2tbsp golden syrup
1/4 pint milk (plus a bit more if needed).

Basically you just warm the milk, fruit and golden syrup for a few minutes then stir it into the dry ingredients, put in a 1lb loaf tin and bake for 45 mins-1h at gas mark 4. Then wrap in foil/greaseproof paper for a day or so before eating.

I also found this one:
MALT LOAF - makes 2 x 1lb loaves (450g)
8oz/225g sultanas
8oz/225g raisins
3oz/85g butter
half pint/290ml water
12oz/340g self-raising flour
half teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
pinch of salt
8oz/225g soft dark brown sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
2 tbsp malt extract

  1. Preheat oven to 180c/350f/gas 4. Grease and flour 2 x 1lb loaf tins.
  2. Put the sultanas, raisins, butter and water together into a large saucepan. Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Allow to cool a little.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt together. Stir in the sugar.
  4. Pour in the warm fruit mixture and add the beaten eggs and malt extract. Mix well with a spoon.
  5. Pour into the prepared tins and bake in the centre of the oven for 30 minutes, then move to a lower shelf and bake for a further 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. Allow to cool in the tin for five minutes.

and Delia has a yeasted version on her website.

I'm interested to try all three (eventually)!

LinzerTorte · 10/05/2010 08:58

Morning all,

I've just come back from my second trip out this morning - if only I'd been more organised I could have done everything straight after the school run. But I only remembered halfway through my morning routine that UV swimsuits are on offer at Lidl this week so I thought I'd better go before they run out of the sizes I need. Came back home, was just about to do swish & swipe when I realised we didn't have any bread for lunchtime. So have just had a brisk walk to the baker's - well, that's 5 minutes of exercise, I suppose.

Today's list:

Routines
Post birthday card and postcards
Cook dinner
Start looking for new car

My car is falling apart. The lock on the driver's side has stopped working and the whole lock mechanism thingy came out on the end of my key this morning when I tried to unlock it. It failed its MOT (Austrian equivalent) last month and would cost far too much to repair, but you get three months' leeway so I have until the end of July to find a new car. Though sooner rather than later would be my preference, before anything else falls off it.

biddyofsuburbia · 10/05/2010 09:09

Morning all!

Linzer it's not a renault is it? I used to have one and the whole door fell off once. Useless!

Today:
DW done
school run half done!
Power plate training session (feeling coldy & not up to it but must start to get fit & loose weight so going anyway)
Food shop (again)
school run
homework
mission & at least one hotspot

Have a good day all & see you later on!

swanriver · 10/05/2010 09:22

Linzer walking to the bread shop sounds good to me - a bit like the Hovis advert (perhaps you are too young for that)
Biddy exercise has fallen to bottom of list here again [sigh]
I have a Renault - don't frighten me...

Lost in mire again, the only thing I can think of is that I desperately need some slug killer, and to get dd to school (she fell over yesterday and is very stiff and covered with grazes - but could possibly go to school if she set her mind to it..umm]

Lovely sunshine, at least I've now planted up the bedding in some random fashion. House needs a bless - oh dear here comes dd crawling along the floor

MrsDinky · 10/05/2010 09:33

Morning all,

Cup of tea anyone? I need to coax myself into going to the gym today too, hmm, but decided to have a nice cup of tea first.
