You know all that dried stuff you have in cupboards (pasta/rice/biscuits etc), how long do you keep them for before binning them?

I don't go into the depths of my kitchen cupboard alot , what is a 'reasonable' time limit to have before you bin them? (assuming they are unopened and have no insects crawling inside them) A few months after the best before? A year? 2 years? More then 2 years?

nothign much goes out of date here,
horlicks and ovaltine get unusable, stuck together,

Thankyou. I really can't see the point in throwing picked onions out myself, vinegar kills off bacteria because it's an acid. Sried stuff shouldn't really go off. I'm fairly sure there's a can of carrots in there that were best before 1997, they were left over from an emergency food parcel from my parents when I ran out of money at Uni I really hate canned carrots! I'll donate them to the museum in a few years time.
