Has anyone got a carpet washer/shampooer they would recommend?

I think I would be better off buying my own carpet shampooer rather than hiring a rug doctor or similar a couple of time a year. i just wondered if anyone could recommend one?

I have a vax one. It is good but it takes a while to learn how to use it properly. And it's a fag putting it all together and then taking it apart to clean. But we use ours every couple of months and our cream carpets still look new despite three and a half years of small children vomiting and worse on them!

I borrowed someone's Vax rapide the other week, it did improve things a bit but carpets is trashed again now. I saw them in Morrisons for 49.99 last week and I'm still considering getting one, got nowhere to keep it though

I used the rug doctor detergent in it. Bit awkward to steer though.

If your carpets are anything like mine (i.e. they've witnessed my DS going through weaning, potty training and learning to write etc!!) then this is probably worth the extra investment!

I've got a Vax Rapide. I think I must be doing something wrong as although the water is dirty the carpets don't look any different.
