I have a Nespresso machine by Krups and it is fab. You can only buy the pods in a couple of shops - Selfridges in London being one, or online and I think they are worth the money.

I was in John Lewis a few weeks ago and they had a Lavazzo one which also froths milk too which was very good and only around £200.

Another vote for Nespresso. I have the Krups one but am coveting this one so I can make cappuccino too.

No mess cause the pods just drop down and you empty the tray.

Friend had a Dolce Gusto and the cappuccino was disgusting.

My DP officially makes the best coffee in the world (although I don't drink it so wouldn't know ) - he has a bifinett cheapo jobbie.

tbh i think simple stove top ones make the best home espresso and you can warm some milk in the micro-wave to get a late and then use a hand whisk on some almost boiling milk to froth it up to get a cappucino. very cheap, little mess and no white elephants in the kitchen

witch - i bought one of those stove ones when we were camping and I missed my proper coffee and I couldnt get on with it at all, was a bit of a faff tbh.

OMG I totally forgot I had one of those - abandonned in the cypboard since we had the filter machine...Mine did make lovely espresso come to think of it but it was a complete mystery to DH and he was never going to use it and is probably why is has been suggesting a new machine.
Looked at Nespresso but was a bit dubious about the Nescafe connection IYSWIM but will look again
Thanks!

I have the magimix nespresso with milk frother which is fab we use ut at least 1 x per day and loads more at the weekend and when we have people round EVERYONE wants one.... ( a lovely coffee that it is) I buy the pods online which is really quick and only works out about 7p a cup....

MrFibble · 19/04/2010 18:30

IMO Gaggia machines are the best and you don't have to feel guilty about all the packaging on capsules of coffee.

egbok · 12/06/2010 20:53

I love my stovetop esspresso maker and wouldnt consider a big machine becaus it:

  • takes up miniscule space
  • looks nice on a shelf
  • inexpensive to buy and operate
  • much more environmentally friendly than one of the pod machines

Just put the milk in the microwave, and buy a mini whisk if you like froth

GoEngland · 13/06/2010 21:56

We have a nespresso machine with a milk frother attachment its brilliant and we use it everyday. I have to have real coffee.

nigglewiggle · 13/06/2010 22:01

inmypants where do you get your pods from - i'm sure we worked it out at 23p per cup?
