A mouse just sauntered past, how to get rid without harming guinea pigs?

I'm hiding upstairs now as DH is out and I'm being all pathetic. We are renting at the moment, and I'm fairly sure it's the landlords responsibility to sort out pests. Tbh I'll hapilly pay anyway, but I'm concerned as we have guinea pigs who have been living inside since the snow. Will the pest control people be able to deal with mice without harming the piggies?

Presumably your pigs are in a cage or some variety of enclosure, so it shouldn't be a problem. The sonic rodent repellents can't be used with guinea pigs in the house though.

Get mousetrap! Place it in a quiet corner where you saw the mouse, baited with a raisin, make sure guinea pigs and dc's can't get to it.

The mice (there's never just one ) are probably attracted by the guinea pig food.

How do you know it's a mouse and not a rat?

THey might be attracted to teh guinea pig food.

A lot of councils do free pest control for rats but you need to pay for mice.

Thanks, I did think they could be attracted to the guinea pig food although the one I saw was at the other end of the house. I think it may be time for the guinea pigs to go back to living outside.

at the idea it could have been a rat - yuk yuk yuk.

You can borrow my dog. My cat would be useless but my dog brought me a lovely decapitated rat the other week. We live opposite a park so it stands to reason there'll be rats about. He caught it in the yard.

A trap should do it. Or poison in one room the Guineas are not allowed in.
