Any good suggestions as where to get one?

Does anyone know if we need a plumber to install it?

Whey do some of the prices vary so much- ie- what constitutes a good fridge-freezer?

Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it.

But if you do, you'll only need a plumber if you want one with the ice dispenser in the door.

rosieposey · 11/04/2010 19:49

I love mine - have had it for 8 years or so and its fab - so much room (theres 6 of us) but if you have an icemaker or cold water dispenser then you will need a plumber to install it. We had those facilities on ours but have never used them. We moved into our new house 4 months ago and had an inbuilt fridge/freezer and it was nowhere near big enough, thank goodness we had room to bring our American fridge freezer - now the smaller one is a drinks fridge

Malkuth · 11/04/2010 19:54

They are brilliant! Get this one cos it doesn't need plumbing in so can go anywhere. Although they are bloody massive and stick out a long way!

devilsadvocaat · 11/04/2010 19:56

i've got one and it is fab!
LOVE the ice machine. you can have cubes or crushed which is great for cocktails slush puppies

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 20:11

I hate mine and will never buy another, just incase you were wondering .

bamboobutton · 11/04/2010 20:16

i love mine, so much space!

didn't have the ice dispenser though as mum has one in hers and i thought the iced water tasted funny.

venusonarockbun · 11/04/2010 20:18

Ive always wanted one of these. Bibbity - what are their bad points?

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 20:22

See this thread from 19:49 onwards. I'm not the only one to regret it!

SuSylvester · 11/04/2010 20:23

My parents have one, my mum is american and that is the one thing she really missed when she first lived over here, she could finally afford one after all the kids moved out (humph) She loves love loves it, the ice is the best bit mmmmm taste so goood.

SuSylvester · 11/04/2010 20:24

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 20:26

Oh well, if you don't eat pizza and you have another freezer in the garage and your dc never drink squash then you are a ponce alright then arent you?

SuSylvester · 11/04/2010 20:27

i am too slim

(snigger)

yes i can fit a frozen in in there. we have an old one as we only got the new one as kitchen was being redone. yes old one is better shape but i heart the ice

BooKangerooWonders · 11/04/2010 20:32

I love ours esp for the cold water and ice, but the freezer bit is far too small for a family. So we're going to get a separate freezer for the utility room

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 20:33

I don't mind being in the minority.

Can't abide Outnumbered on tv, either, so there.

Makes me feel maverick and non-conformist and just a little bit edgy.

venusonarockbun · 11/04/2010 20:41

Thanks for the link to the other thread Bibbity.

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 20:49

Its an awful lot of money to spend just to have iced water on tap. The space inside the fridge and freezer honestly does not seem any bigger to me than a large standard f/f.

CaptainNancy · 11/04/2010 20:52

I love mine... and if you don't have the water dispenser, you can have a mahoosive freezer too

DreamTeamGirl · 11/04/2010 21:58

Oh god I love mine

Have the previous version of this Samsung and the very best bit is the shelf in the fridge door that opens out for you to access your milk etc without opening the fridge and provides a shelf on which to put your cup whilst you pour the milk in- also ideal for pouring apple juice and so on
Could live without the ice and water dispenser although they are nice, but I love love love my 'easy access beverage station'

I agree you cant fit a big pizza in very easily but we don't really eat big pizzas so its a non issue for me, and the freezer bit is pretty big.

Oh and bibbity, there is definitely more space inside mine compared to my old big fridge

totallydifferenttypeofperson · 11/04/2010 22:08

I love mine but then I make my own pizza from (more or less)scratch, usually.

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/04/2010 22:09

PONCE!

Love love love ours .

Worst thing is definitely other kids coming over and thinking it is a toy!! Never have to give kids a drink from the tap again

I'm with bibbity, I loathe mine and it's the worst domestic appliance I've ever had. However it is my third (we move quite a bit and tend to sell the houses with the fridge etc)so I should have learnt my lesson.

The first we had was an Admiral, and it was OK, but we had a couple of problems in the 5 years we had it. It died completely 2 weeks after the new owners bought the house.

The second was a Samsung, with the fantastic "easy access beverage station", that was really good and I'd love another, and as far as I know it has been trouble free for the past 4 years.

The third is a Whirlpool and it is utter rubbish. After my admiral experience, I did take out an extended warranty on it and have made many a call to the engineers. Not only is it unreliable, it doesn't have separate temperature control for the fridge, all the cooling comes through vents from the freezer, so parts of the fridge tend to freeze up. Nearly all the plastic surrounds on the shelves have cracked/broken, and of course the freezer is not nearly big enough.

If I had my time again I'd have a separate larder fridge and upright freezer, and buy in ice cubes.
