Fling before you fly

Hi

Does anyone else fancy starting off with a month of 27 thing-flings before they fly? i just never get into flying full-on because our house is such a pickle. It's better than it was - with all the room rescues and 15 minute timed clean ups, but I've finally realised that you can't clean clutter.

So starting with the clothes that the kids and I have outgrown I'm on a fling-a-day for a month.

Also plan to fling:
out of date packets lurking in cupboards
baby toys
broken electrical goods put by to 'mend' one day
books I'll never read again
videos and cassette tapes

Anyone want to suggest another set of things to fling?

Linzer
Why not pop all the odd lids & boxes in a bag in the garage or something and if you haven't found their pairs in, say, 2 months then bin them?

On the 27 if it is too overwhelming you could do 3 * 9, so

9 things for normal rubbish
9 things for recycle bin and
9 things for charity shop

I threw away 18 odd & sods or dried up paint etc and 9 of DS' pictures today - did it while he was at afterschool club tho!!

That's a great idea DTG - atm they're all in a box in the cellar along with various kitchen "spares", but I think I need to start dating boxes and flinging whatever I haven't needed after a couple of months.

Despite being child-free until 3 pm today, too much work arrived for me to get much decluttering done. In fact, I managed to pass on a couple of items of clothing that DD2 had outgrown and that was it - although seeing as outgrown clothes usually end up in the cellar for months on end until we make a trip to the charity shop, even getting two things out of the house was an achievement!

As I'm likely to be busy with work all week, I think I need to be a bit more realistic about how much I can fling - breaking it down into 3 lots of 9 is a good idea too. I will tackle the kitchen tomorrow!

I flung what looked like a plastic stick of fake wood yesterday. it had been gathering dust on the kitchen window sill for about three months. Today - not having wanted it in all that time, DS asks if I know where the spare wand is for the Nintendo - the one that looks like wood. I said I didn't know exactly, as the bin men came this morning so it could be anywhere right now...

DTG - good idea on lids and containers.

Not much decluttering here today either as DH back after mega stint away and goes off again tomorrow at 5am .

But tomorrow it's papers. I feel like doing 27 kilos of them, never mind 27 sheets of paper. Old post, old filing, all going.

Did the garden today and got rid of at least 27 things so chuffed with that

I am gong to do a draw in dining area tomorrow and then the cutlery draw- full of medicine spoons and wet wipes from KFC

I finally made it into the kitchen yesterday. Only managed to fling 18 things, but I did beat our 2007 record: I flung two jars of spices from 2006 and a bottle of vegetable oil spray from 2004!

Downdog · 23/04/2010 14:17

I'm just going to fling 27 items this evening - first ever fling for me! Baby steps, baby steps

BTW in awe of your listed DAILY flings.

LinzerTorte · 23/04/2010 14:26

Don't be in awe of the daily flings that I've listed, Downdog - I've been trying to fling 27 things from my kitchen for about the last week! I shall be starting from scratch next week. Again...

shockers · 23/04/2010 14:36

I'm inspired!

I have 22 years worth of clutter that I will not be taking to my new house.

It's really hard to be ruthless but I'm going upstairs now to fling all the clothes I don't wear regularly.

Downdog · 23/04/2010 16:22

I'm going to try & sling my 27 things in 15 minutes - well it is a FRIDAY night WOO

DreamTeamGirl · 23/04/2010 16:40

Just done 10 thingas from cuttlery draw- Hurrah!
Now what else was on my list ...

realitychick · 23/04/2010 19:50

You're all doing so well. Wow. Been a bit snowed under at work and not done a fling today, though have bagged up some small school uniform for charity.

Will get cracking again tomorrow!

2 binbags of old clothes and old curtains this weekend. They're in the garage now. Not nice enough for charity - think I'll just put them in the fabric recycling depot.

Any other flings?
