Any ideas on how to get rid of this smell, please?

I've got a lovely ostrich skin birkin that I picked up for £11 in a charity shop (best bargain ever) and I use pretty much every day.

However, I managed to spill a lot of very pungent thai fish sauce into it the other day, and it's soaked into the lining and now stinks to high heaven.

Is there anything that you could suggest that I could use to counteract it? I can't bear the thought of not using it anymore but equally, I'm not that keen on walking around and smelling like Billingsgate Central.

what about dry cleaning stain remover, the clear liquid type in a bottle? It has a pretty strong 'chemical' smell and dries quickly, if you sponged some on it might get rid of the worst of it or at least replace the smell!

How about some sort of ordour absorber like charcoal?

Put a couple of pieces inside the bag and let it sit- change them after 2 days - or bicarb?

Thank you - both excellent ideas. Will give it a go and see what happens.
