try a good sprinkle of washing powder dissolved in warm water and leave it for a few hours

You could try a bicarb and water then slowly heat for a until it all starts flaking off then leave it to stand.

boil it on the hob with a dishwasher tablet in it.

Bio washing powder better than non

You can also boil it with either rhubarb or coca cola and use one of those really harsh metal scrubbers. If you can get your hand right in iyswim, you can try scraping the bottom with a razor blade.

Is it steel? If so you're ok, if it's non stick it's obviously time to chuck it - teflon is poisonous when damaged (if not before)

I boil some water with lots of salt in it in my pans, the burnt bits just lift off with v little scrubbing.

thanks so much....

you won't believe this, but i went to work, having left this thread open on the pc, and i came home to find that my lovely dh had used the washing powder method and cleaned my saucepan right up!

woo hoo...result, and living proof that miracles do happen, in the form of my pan being saved and even more so that my dh did it!
