how to clean a stainless steel (american style) fridge

dunno if size/shape relevant, presumably not, just to confirm what beast I'm struggling with. Anyway, I have tried a couple of different stainless steel cleaners but to no avail. My fridge looks really awful. Stainless steel front covered in grubby kid finger print & hand marks. Will I ever be able to clean it? What's the secret?

E-cloth polishing cloth. Costs about a fiver.
Just use it slightly damp and rub until dry. Tis a miracle!

baby oil

ErnestTheBavarian · 12/03/2010 11:47

ok, so the oil I've heard of before, but can you tell me in fool proof terms how/ how much to use/ anything else. We're renting and am terrified of getting lynched by the owners I really can't balls it up.

Tina, what exactly is an e cloth - I'm not in UK so not up to date with your stuff. Almost certainly have the same here but need to know exactly what it is. I have tried with microfaser cloth. Is that the same? Unfortunately made no difference.

Sorry, no, my fridge isn't stainless steel but my stepmother has bored told me more than once that she cleans her stainless steel range cooker with baby oil. Don't think you'd do any harm with it, anyway, its fairly innocuous stuff.

I used to work in a cafe with lots of stainless steel, we used to clean them just with ordinary cleaners, and then put a little bit of baby oil on a piece of kitchen toweland wipe it all over. This gives it a lovely sheen and stops it becomming streaky

Floopy21 · 13/03/2010 09:52

yeah, baby oil works a treat, I do all of our stainless s with it.

just to report, I was I admit disbelieving, and also a bit scared it would stain/mark/permanently streak the finish, but I got the baby oil out and I am totally amazed at the transformation. I realy didn't believe it would work, but my fridge now looks amazing. Thank you very very much.

white vinegar and water 50/50

Yes the key to stainless steel and other metalic surfaces is not to use harsh abrasives like powders or even some creams.

Not heard of baby oil though, think I will try that trick
