Employing a cleaner - costs??

I have had a local agency round who have quoted me £135 for a complete spring clean and then almost £30 a week for 3 hrs weekly clean of everywhere.

Its a 3 bed terrace, largeish - does this sound about right?

Many thanks!

our cleaner used to get 35 pounds for 4 hours work to do basic every where and we paid her 100 to do spring clean which took her 8 hours

i think price varies immensely in different areas of the country. have you tried looking on notice boards in newsagents/Post office? Or at jobcentre (online). I pay mine £26 for 4 hours - which is failry normal around here. if she does a blitz i just pay her the extra hourly rate. a proper agency will be more though as they have their rake off and also i think they are insured etc. you could ask how many hours the spring clean is for.

Thanks both, its 9.50 per hour and actually the spring clean is £95 for 10 hours, not £135 as I thought!

Cleaners are like hen's teeth here and I would rather have one on recommendation - but there don't seem to be any!!

glad i don't live where you do!! I got mine via a recommendation of another parent at my children's school. i prob didn't explain very well but my suggestion ref looking at noticeboards was so you got an idea of price in your area. a good cleaner is lovely, but you aren't having mine!

I pay £8 an hour. Someone at work more senior than me recommended her. Senior management more likely to have cleaners!

I pay £10 an hour (cambridge area), not agency.

hi i have a cleaner who charges £25 for 2 hours (its a mother and daughter team) and bless her heart she does general cleaning (including windows) and also the oven if i havent got round to it. She has even offered to do the ironing if i wanted. She comes once a fortnight.

I do wonder though if she does me a deal because she was originally my mums cleaner (when my mum was ill before she died) and I have done her a favour by permanently adopting one of her pets that had outgrown them (literally!)

I pay £10 in London again not agency and she does an extremely thorough job (her 4 hours would probably take me 4 days)

Have paid a little less but lower rates seem to mean less conscientious job is done

Here in Surrey it is £14 ph through agency. I pay £10 ph for "freelance" recommended through friend.
