Where to store shoes in a narrow front hall

We went to see the place we are buying again today to take measurements, meet builders etc. And I realised that the front hall is going to be tricky and I am trying to come up with a solution.

As you come in the front door (this is a flat), you are straight into the hallway - there is no entrance area as such. The hallway is fairly narrow and on one side has a radiator with a wooden cover on it.

There is no cupboard for coats or shoes. We are having one built before we move in, but it is further down the hall and around the corner. It is more for storage of coats and shoes than a place to put them when you come in.

We have a shoes off policy in our home for us and guests so I really need someone to put shoes as people come in. If the radiator and cover weren't there, I was going to put a narrow shoe cabinet on that wall. But there isn't space now.

In our old flat, we just lined them up on a narrow mat (it was actually a towel!) along the wall. But with the radiator cover in the this place, anything on the other side would make the hallway to narrow to walk down.

So, any neat ideas?

Can you take the radiator out? I never use the one in our hall (which is also very narrow), fortunately it is small.

By the way, we have a sort of shoe pigeonhole thing from IKEA, that doubles as a bench.

I think that may be the solution. Maybe we will put a vertical slimline radiator in which will leave room for shoe and coat storage.

We have something similar to the Grevbäck on this page: www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/range/10387/10454/

It is good, but we often ahve an empty shoe rack and shoes all over the floor.
