People who clean their loos without using a loo brush: come and tell me your method, please

Have read some posts here and there on various threads in which people say they prefer not to use a brush to clean the loo.

We do use one, but I would like to get rid of it, just not sure what the practical alternative is. Gloves, bleach and a sponge? Even for, er, traces?

Actually ours is not a traditional brush; we downsized to one of those Duck Fresh Brush things in the hope of it being cleaner, but it's still a wobbly germy contraption standing in the corner inviting curious toddlers to grab it. If the room was larger I wouldn't mind but it is absolutely tiny, just about room to sit on the loo, stand up, turn around and that's it. No hope of dissuading DS from wanting to investigate every single object therein while he is training.

I just put the loo brush on the window ledge away from little hands, it could be an alternative for you to no brush

I pour eco toilet cleaner under the rim of the toilet daily. Leave it for about 10mins and flush. About twice weekly I use bleach. As often as is needed (read- I can be bothered) I clean the toilet top, seats and under the seat with a damp cloth and bathroom cleaner.

My loo is spotless and no need for a manky brush.

I clean my loo daily, wiping down seat and rim and pedastal with a cloth and disinfectant, and pouring bleach around the rim at night to soak.

Any 'traces' are cleaned off straight away, wiped off with some loo roll or a sponge if necessary.

It is cleaned daily so never dirty enough to be a problem.

Rubber cloves and a good scrub wih a sponge once a week. Sponge then goes in the wash.

OK, so it sounds like it will come down to doing a daily clean, but that is fine; was thinking I should start to do that anyway.

A quick wipe everyday with a parazone wipe and bleach overnight keeps ours looking and smelling fresh. I really don't like loo brushes.

Daily (or more) cleaning is a must in our house with 2 DSs + DH and only one loo .

but what do you do about skidmarks?!

I also have duck fresh thingy, but I have to make sure that the pads are 'in sight' in case any visitors (our visitors tend to sleepover) need them...

My question to those who dont have a loo brush would be what about visitors if they leave a skidder? They would be mortified with nothing to clean it with?

That is the only reason i have one, for the of my friends.

another vote for those disposable Duck Fresh thingies......

although I feel guilty about the non eco friendliness

but hate hate hate skanky loo brushes. also use method spray with kitchen roll to clean all the outside

also we have new loos that seem to have a lot less water in than the old ones so skidders are constant

But how is the loo brush germy? And even if it is, what does it matter? The only thing I use my loo brush for is, er, cleaning the loo. With bleach, usually, or it's rinsed thoroughly in the flush water. I don't touch the bristles, I don't clean my teeth with it, and I clean the handle after use. What's the problem?
My loo brush is 15 years old (should that be or ), and we haven't developed any chronic disease through inhaling decaying toilet germs so far!

mablemurple, I just don't like the loo brush being so inviting to little fingers in a tiny room. (Have not used bleach in the past, just normal toilet cleaner, so I think it has been germy -- and can't imagine that the "fresh brush" thingy at the business end is that great either).

Like you, historically we have never been in the habit of touching them anyway, but now that DS is spending time in there and is curious but a bit wary of the toilet etc as well, I don't want to have to keep saying "Don't touch this, or that, or this ..." and making him feel it is an uneasy place to be IYSWIM.

I spray all round, and use loo paper to clean as it is flushable and does not hang about all germified.

I then put lots of bleach around the rim, and leave it to work.

I clean every night before bed, and leave the bleach to work over night. That way the 'streaks'don;t dry on, meaning they need scrubbing to remove.
