Cleaning the wire oven shelves - aargh!

Someone must have invented a way of getting burnt on muck off these. I've turned over a new leaf and am really trying to keep the oven clean but the shelves and rack in the grill pan are holding out on me. Anyone got any ideas?

Soak 'em in biological washing powder, then scrub.

Yes, and scrub with one of those stainless steel wire scrubber things. I do mine with one of those once a week (2 minute job)and they are as new.

Oven pride them definitely. Just pop 'em in a bag and let the chemicals do the work I say

This

and

this (which is also very useful in the garden as a potting tray, and for children's messy play).

And for when you don't want to use chemicals, the stainless steel scourers. Like old-fashioned steelwool, but bigger, shinier, less prickly, and more expensive (but last longer, too).

Definitely oven pride. The pack comes with a big plastic bag that you put the racks in. Then you pour the chemicals in (don't think about what they are) and squidge it around. A few hours later all the gunk has magically dissolved off (v satisfying).
