Dishwasher not washing properly - wtf is wrong with it?!

ExperimentSixTwoSix · 09/02/2010 22:52

-Am (vaguely) rinsing plates aforehand
-Not overstacking (just me, DH and DS so not trying to put 13 place settings in at once)
-doesn't need rinse aid

  • doesn't need salt
  • cleaned filters

but it's Still not getting all the muck off - bottles and glasses are greasy and gross

Using same old tabs finish powerball or some such nonsense that we have been using forever
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

Grateful for any help.

I used washing powder once - it was reallygood

Trickle · 09/02/2010 22:56

I'm usually a use green cleaning stuff person - but I havn't found anything that deals with this like those nasty clean your dishwasher things you get from the supermarket (usually finish) - I find they do work.

I also find having a magno ball in there (proper branded type - I'm afraid the poundstreacher onces just don't cut it) Helps mean it only needs doing every 6-8 months.

ExperimentSixTwoSix · 10/02/2010 10:27

Thanks for this
What is a magnaball please??

this

you can sometimes get them from, ebay and lakeland stock them.

They work like calgon - but for 5 years and that seems to stop build up of other stuff too ie cleaning solution and grease

Have you cleaned the arms which spray the water. The holes can get clogged so it doesn't wash evenly and sprays dirt.

Sidge · 10/02/2010 14:34

You probably need to clean the jet holes in the rotating arms.

They can get blocked with scale and gunge. Take the arms off, wash them, pour descaler through the arms and use a toothpick or similar to poke out any blockages. Rinse well with hot water.

Then run a wash through the empty machine with a cupful of soda crystals (make sure it's 60 degrees or more).

That should do it!

SummerLightning · 10/02/2010 14:35

Check and see if the arms are going round? Open it while it's running and have a peek?
Are the dishes hot when it's finished?
Sorry but it does sound like there is something properly wrong with it (unless it's the arms clogged up as suggested above)

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2010 14:41

yes, clean the arms, all of them
this worked for mine for a while, ended up getting a new one though

onlyjoinedforoffers · 10/02/2010 14:47

mines never seems to be spotless glasses always have some sort of film on them

bibbitybobbityhat · 10/02/2010 14:54

The film on your glasses is minute scratches, ojo. All glasses go cloudy after a while if you wash them in the disher. Hence I do my wine glasses by hand [smug emoticon].

onlyjoinedforoffers · 10/02/2010 16:00

thanks bibbity didnt know that any excuse to go to Ikea for more

biglips · 10/02/2010 21:16

i had to take everything out from inside (the arms and the thing that the arms is attached to) the DW to clean it by hand using the washing up brush and very hot water. (i did use the Dw's cleaner but it didnt work this time for some reason). Now its spotless!

RockbirdandHerSpork · 10/02/2010 21:18

Mine does this and has done since day one. Next Wednesday is the day I do what I should have done 6 years ago and replace the fecker!
