ink on carpet,any ideas on how to get it out?

dd2 was writing with an ink pen, rather than a ball point pen iyswim,and has managed to get a bit on our brand new carpet grrr!

Is there anyway I can get it off the carpet? it's a red pen and the carpet is an oatmeal colour. I don't want to chance wetting it incase it makes the carpet pink.

Any advice?

Apparently, surgical spirits will take out the stain. Or vodka.

I used car upholstery cleaner (turtle wax I think) to get vomit out of carpet last week. I'm pretty sure it listed ink as one of the stains, worth having a look at it.
