Lunch bags - they smell!

Can anyone help with this please?

DS1 and DD both had new lunchbags in September which were the soft, wipe-clean type. After a few weeks they both stank so I started washing them in the washing machine which improved them but didn't get rid of the smell completely and it would come back over the next few days.

Replaced them both at Christmas and DS's smells again already! I think it is from when juice has spilled in it. He is YR3 and I haven't had this problem before. Is it normal? Is there anything I can do? Don't want to send him to school with a stinky bag but can't keep replacing them every few weeks either.

Help!

I did try rubbing with bicarb before I resorted to the washing machine but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I clean ours out with an antibacterial wipes seems to keep the smell away.

trying to think of different things I have used to get rid of various smells around the house!

vinegar
soda water
lemon juice
bicarb (which you've already tried!)
antibacterial disinfectant

oh, and whify sandwich bags get turned inside out and hung outside for a couple of hours. Mine don't have sandwiches at school, but if they've used it on trips or whatever, I find that helps to keep them fresh.

I think it is the padded part rather than the wipe clean inside part that the smell is coming from. I could try soaking the whole think in vinegar and then washing in machine?

Comewhinewithme-wipes look great but not sure if right for this because it's on inside iyswim.
