Why does my microwave turn itself right off when I cook jacket potatoes in it?

Is it a built in one or is the vent covered?

We had some problems with a built in one overheating, it only happened with Jacket Potatoes because most things aren't in there long enough.

I've had this before with our old microwave. I think sometimes there can be too much moisture coming out from the potato and it just shuts the microwave down

Solution - get takeout

It has a vent. After a while it turned itself back on with me just needing to reset the clock. Obviously gets too hot.

it happened to me too as i thought i broken my microwave whilst cooking the jacket potatoes...it was all the moist that was very steamy inside that shut down my microwave......once all cleared, my microwave came back to life!

Mine spews potato steam all over the worktop when I do jacket spuds.

A moisture issue?

You could do them entirely in the oven, I suppose.
