Machine Washing "Dry Clean Only" Curtains ...

Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY washed dry clean only curtains. Was gobsmacked how much it cost to dry clean them last year (they charge by the metre) so thought I might give it a try as I have washed clothes on a wool cycle when they were dco. My cat has taken to wrapping himself up in the "pool" so they are only dirty really at the bottom.

DON'T DO IT!!!

When my dad moved into a retirement flat I washed all his curtains ('cos they smelt of, well, old people ) and they've never been the same since!

They are slightly wrinkled, won't iron flat, and they hang funny.

Wish I hadn't done it, but like you, I thought the cost of dry cleaning was ridiculous.

No - they shrank! Luckily they were just cheap Ikea jobs and it gave me an excuse to buy some lovely heavier weight ones.

You can exchange your Clubcard vouchers (if you collect them) for Johnsons vouchers (if you have one nearby). I got 2 large rugs cleaned for £25 worth of CC vouchers - should have been £100. The rugs only cost £100 for the 2 of them!!

Ours shrank when they did, on a gentle wash, which was great because they were about an inch too long anyway!

Thanks everyone for your responses
I think I might try the bath method on a warm breezy day(not anytime soon then!)
They are really long so some shrinkage will not be a prob.
