Any miracle solutions for my hall shambles?

We have a fairly small (longish but very narrow) hall and it is always a shables. Coats, bags, mail etc etc etc.
We have over-the-door hooks on one of the doors and some more hooks in the cupboard under the stairs, but these don't stop the never ending piles of stuff.

Is this inevitable?
Are there any miracle solutions?
It would help if there was somewhere for the dc (2 and 4) to put their stuff that is accessible for them.
Should I get somewhere to put the various bits of paper? Or is this just saying that it is ok do dump paper in the hall?

BTW I have a track record of thinking that buying stuff will solve my tidyness problems.

Go to The Holding COmpany website, or Store. Browse the wonderful storage solutions. Spend lots of time glued to the screen. Then you won't notice the shambles in the hall, to which there is no solution.

We have a rectangular wicker laundry basket (well, it used to be our laundry basket) in the hall which gloves, bags, bike sundries etc live in, which helps a bit. It means you have a small space to squeeze through, but tbh there would be a small space & stuff piled on the floor otherwise.

Definitely low down hooks for the 2/4 y/o I would say, so that even if they don't hang stuff on them themselves yet, they can get their own coats/bags without you having to reach them down (more the 4 y/o of course).

We put up a stud wall 6ft in with a lovely door in and created a porch which has hooks and a high shelf. It has worked really well as the rest of the hall is clear

Hi thanks for the suggestions.

I like the laundry basket idea. At the moment I have bag on one of the coat hooks for sundries - doesn't work very well.

No space for a stud wall unfortunately - the stairs come off the hall right next to the front door.

Anyone seen anything nice to hold keys, phones etc? Or maybe these shouldn't be right by the front door?

Ours live in a wicker basket in the kitchen

We've done well out of one of these console tables with shoe racks underneath. Is your hall too narrow even for one of these? On the other side we have high hooks for us and low hooks for the two year old. And a cork board for the important bits of paper.
