Shall I keep my heating on 24/7?

Received a text from my home insurers to say that we should keep our heating on 24/7 (guess they're worried about burst pipes).
So far, we've not done this - partly because of cost, partly because my DH is my human hot water bottle in bed.
Heating normally goes off at 10pm and back on again at about 5am.

Should I be keeping the heating on through the night?
What do you all do?

Do you have a working thermostat? If so set it to a comfortable temperature during the day an turn down to low overnight. Heating will only kick in if the temp drops below what thermostat is set to, so not wasting power but also not letting it get to freezing.

Thanks. We do have a working thermostat. Problem is, if we have it turned low for the night, means we wake to a flat that's not a toasty 20 degrees, and will have to go downstairs to whack thermostat back up in teh morning.

I sound like a monaing minnie ... might well have to do this in order to have peace of mind over freezing pipes though

We have thermostatic valves on all our radiators and turn them down the the frost setting at night, but leave the heating on. I have to go round and whack them all up in the morning, but it only takes a minute and they warm up pretty fast.

However, this did not prevent the boiler from packing up last night. The plumber has sorted it, but it's stil not sounding well. Anyway, I asked him what we should do and he reckoned it was best to keep it on (and I seem to remember a Brit Gas engineer telling me the same thing last year too).
