Um... Dirty looking loo question (ecover)

We use ecover loo cleaner fluid. Problem is the toilet bowl is now stained grey/ black and looks awful!

Anyone know why this is? And is there anything non- harmful to fishies that I could use instead? I don't really want to use bleach...

Ps bog def not mucky, it just looks bad!

i had this, and it got worse and worse and worse

eventually i relented and got some super strength harpic. blasted it and got rid of it all.

now just use ecover and it's been fine since.

I use ecover and get same.

I now chuck some domestos down every few weeks/month when it starts to look skanky but use the ecover dailyish.

Not great but works for us, would love a greener solution as hate using strong chemicals.

You can try dousing the bowl with white vinegar (and pour a good amount into the water too) and leaving it there at least overnight, even better to do it if you are going away for a few days. Then a good squizz round with the brush before you flush will get rid of any limescale which is contributing to the discolouration.

I empty the water out of the bowl (use small plastic cup to scoop it out and a sponge to totally dry it) then apply some harpic limescale remover.

Then go back to ecover for normal cleaning.

It isn't very green but I have relatively new white toilets and I don't want them stained browny/green with limescale and whatever else may be lurking.

I've come to the conclusion that it is best to use bleach occasionally and nothing in between. A small amount does wonders.

Bleach - unless you are actually keeping fish IN your toilet bowl.... The water from the loo is going through the foul water drain and on to a water plant to be treated not to a river. Plus bleach breaks down very quickly.

It's the limescale I find that builds up and makes the loo look skanky.

I use the Harpic limescale tablets once in a while. Plop them in let them fizz (best to leave it over night or for at least an hour)

Works a treat.
