My house is a tip and I have pursuaded DH to take the kids to his Mums tomorrow so I can get cracking with it.

Sorry I know this is a bit long but would really appriciate some advice on how to get it sorted.

When I say a tip, I mean it is REALLY bad. Its not fair on the kids to keep it like this.

I don't know where to start. No way I can get it done tomorrow as there is far more than a days work here, so want to make the most of my time.
Can't decide:

Either sort out upstairs, so the girls have a lovely space to play in their rooms, and I could get the whole of upstairs done in one day, and get all the new Christmas presents that are messing up downstairs put up there. That way at least I can hang out up there with the kids in the day, and then sort out downstairs at nap times. AND I could then make space for a travel cot in our room as sometimes the kids nap time clashes (They share a room), and i want DD2 to get used to sleeping in one too.

OR I could do downstairs, so at least if people come over they are not disgusted (at the moment, I don't even like opening the door ). But then it might not all get done in one day, and all the toys etc still wont have a place.

I don't want to split it up and do both really as I get quite disheartened if nothing is finished iyswim? I like DH and the kids to come home and say "wow" at least part of the house. If I just do half hour in each room, it still seems a mess at the end of the day and I get fed up and loose motivation.

I vote for upstairs - it sounds like this would feel like an achievement and open the way for sorting out downstairs gradually over the coming days/weeks. Don't worry about other people they'll just have to wait for the results the important people are those living in the house all the time. Good luck and remember even if you are doing one area of the house don't just tackle that as one job - split it into sections with a break between each and so you can see each section being finished (otherwise you'll be exhausted and will have trouble keeping the momentum going for the whole day).
