Our house gives straight onto the street,so we would like some privacy. Currently Have old plain net,but would love something a bit smarter. Any ideas?

We have white wooden venetian blinds from Ikea in our living room bay window, and plain wooden venetian blinds on all the other windows (as well as curtains).

I once had some lovely sheer Spirograph type print net curtain things from Habitat but they went that horrible yellowy colour which washing wouldn't remove so I took 'em down.

I've got verticals as I have two massive windows which look out onto the street. It's a 70 property so shutters would look odd. I rather like the ones I've chosen but I know that they are a pet hate of MnettersGrin

At our current house, we have nothing. But in our last house (which was overlooked), I bought white wooden blinds (when DH moved in and started wandering around naked). Because the blinds were white they seemed to bounce more light into the room.

Alternatively, how about voile roller blind? Or how about a bottom up blind, so you just block out the the bit that most people can see into www.bottomupblinds.co.uk/

We have flat white cotton voile panels on our upstairs bedroom window at the front so I can walk about naked in the mornings. They are made from a set of Ikea curtains.

Folk are often talking about net curtains on here. I know nobody in real life with net curtains. Very strange.

NotGoodNotBad · 12/03/2013 08:01

My mum has net curtains. She wouldn't be without them. She is 80. Nuff said!

ButteryJam · 12/03/2013 08:46

PinkFluffySlippers, thanks, on the website for reflective mirror it says that it only allows 21% of the light in, does that mean the room gets very dark?

We have wooden blinds. They're white painted ones and look lovely. We got a local company to fit them, and they weren't enormously expensive.

Previously we've fitted ikea wooden blinds in several houses. They were always fine too, but it depends on whether they'll fit your windows.

I would rather have people staring in my windows all day that put up nets or voile.

cotton Victorian lace net curtains are beautiful if hung away from the window pane on a separate track or pole.
