Dishwasher - Miele v Bosch?

Very excited as we're finally getting a dishwasher. We're trying to pick one out of the following: Miele G1225SC which seems to be great but is double the price of the Bosch SRS45E32GB . Main difference seem to be that the Miele is quieter and it will be in the kitchen where I spend loads of time. What do people think?

We have a Miele (diff model, about 4 years old now) which has been a huge disappointment. Got Miele everything else and v happy with it, but the d/w is worse than my old MFI own brand one. It doesn't get stuff v clean, very inflexible about how you stack it and you can only really use about a third of the plate slots - any closer together and nothing gets clean. Have heard similar comments from other Miele owners but they may have improved now so asking on here is a great idea.

My Bosch is great. I don't think it's that noisy - way quieter than the washing machine being on (not spinning)

Agree, Miele crap - esp the cutlery drawer.

We have a Bosch - it's actually not been quite as fab as I hoped, as things don't seem to get very dry and you have to stack carefully to make sure they get clean. I'd say our old Whirlpool did the washing better. OTOH the customer service has been very good - it went wrong because of something we actually did wrong and they were great about it. Also really like the design and the cutlery holder which is a flat tray rather than a carton thing.

I have a slimline Miele. Have had it 6 years and never had a problem with it. It is in a kitchen/garden room so had to be quiet. It is so quiet that the other day I thought I hadn't turned it on.

From a safety pov with young children I think the cutlery drawer is an excellent idea.

Thanks very much for all your replies.

We've got a Miele and I LOVE the cutlery drawer, baskets drive me mad. My mum's got a Bosch though and thinks it's brilliant, so I reckon it probably depends on the model. I would have a Miele washing machine over a Bosch any day, but dishwasher wise they're probably quite similar, although my hatred of cutlery baskets was such that we got a Miele dishwasher to avoid it.

We've got a Bosch - but a fullsize Logixx one, so not the same model. It's amazingly quiet (40dB), and very flexible - most of the racks fold away or are adjustable. Do think about the flexibility of the models you're looking at - look at them in the flesh and think about what different sorts of dishes you might want to put in - like, could you put in your pans, or a casserole dish, if you wanted?

We don't usually put those things in, but it's nice to be able to when you're busy.

I've got a Miele and its fab gets everything clean using value dishwasher tablets. Love the cutley drawer only design where you can wash chopsticks safely. Love the adjustable height drawer, very quiet too so you can listen to the radio. Bought it in John Lewis 6 years ago and the sales staff said someone else had also just bought same model to replace their last Miele dishwasher which had started to go rusty after 20 years use. I think from the reviews a Miele will outlast most brands which have an average lifespan of 7 years.

We got a new Bosch to replace an old one (used daily for yonks) but I have to say the new one is not as good as the old one it replaced. Cleans ok, but programmes take forever and some of the prongs on the trays (hope that makes sense) have broken off - its not as robust as the old one!

Am considering a new Miele dishwasher , but as is more expensive will be watching thread with interest
Love my Miele washing machine
All i want is for it to last for many years

alurkerspeaks · 31/12/2009 00:13

I'm on my second bosch one. I have a cheapo Classix one and it is fine.

I have a loft style flat so the dishwasher is essentially in my living room and noise isn't a problem. My parents also have Bosch (theirs is a more expensive one than mine) and is even quieter. So much so that you periodically open the door to find it is actually operating.

Miele tend to last longer - but how long do you think you will be in property? (bearing in mind I sold my old dishwasher with my last property as it was too much hassle to move it).

FiveSoloRings · 31/12/2009 00:14

Bosch

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 31/12/2009 14:23

Thanks everyone. We've gone for the Miele - hoping that it will last for ages and so cost very little per wash. Not sure how long we will stay here but at that price would plan on taking it with us wherever we went!
