Ok so my tumble dryer just caught fire! Recommend me a new one!

That's it really. The fuse box tripped, we switched it back on then I smelt smoke. Went into the utility room to find smoke pouring out of the tumble dryer! Lucky I was in!

I want a fairly big tumble dryer but I am going for a condenser one as I'm fed up of having to leave the back door open while it's on.

What makes do you recommend ladies? And
where's best to get it from?

TIA

Same thing happened to my kettle this morning - maybe it was sad I hadn't used it for 5 days.

Do you really need one?

we have a Bosch condenser and it has been great.
Gets a lot of use and hasn't let us down so far

Yes really need one- can't bear wet washing drying around the house and the weather just isn't reliable enough in the winter to hang stuff on the line.

Bosch is a make I have been looking at- can't believe how expensive tumble dryers are though!

I have a Zanussi condenser (over eight years old now) and it has never given one moment of trouble.
It is getting elderly now and makes a rumble

FWIW I have John Lewis brand. Apparently they're made by same factory as AEG. And the warranty is great. I love my tumbly - and have never had a problem with JL brand appliances.

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/12/2009 16:44

I was wondering about those. John Lewis seem to have that reliability factor- good service too from waht I have heard.

You get good warranties with John Lewis too.
Think we went for the Bosch simply because there was a great deal on it at the time but we usually get all our large appliances from John Lewis because of their longer warranties

My Zanussi condenser lasted 8 years and has only recently broken. Will try and replace it with Zanussi again, though like the idea of one that switches of when the washing is dry.

hellsbelles · 29/12/2009 18:06

don't get a miele. It has an alarm when the drying finishes that will not stop until you turn it off.

Sounds like a small thing but if you want to put the drying on and then go to bed you can't because the bloody thing goes on and on like an air raid siren. Seemingly no way to disable it either.
