Maybe not today

OFM we are missing our relatives
well - did have a slight row with my brother during Xmas phone in - does that count? All relatives elsewhere - Bath Lake District Ireland you name it.
It is quite relaxing, but what we want is a nice 13 year old to assemble/do instruction manuals/supervise board games for us

We are so chilled here that we are setting
dh has taken two out to buy a memory card for camera

I need to
Hang out washing
Find ds2 under a pile of aircraft and take him to library to return books
Make some soup with leftover veg
sweep floor (again)
ring friends about tomorrow outing to Kew

Car has broken (alternator?)- also need to ring the AA but trying not to stress about it, as we are not going anywhere in particular - well except the MOT

Greyskull - now that sounds like a fantastic party yesterday
TM - sorry the flu bug has hit your household, hopefully for not too long, and that youmanaged to get the party in good spirits.

Hope everyone is having a happy day.

BBL

scattyspice · 29/12/2009 12:38

Swan/Greyskull - you sound very serene . How exciting GS to be a Christmas Aunty!

I am at work. Its very busy, lots of poor people having strokes at Christmas . Hoping to get some of them home later.

List for this week:
sort out cameras
get haircut/coloured
Thank you letters (x2)
Laundry
food

Not too bad. have a cosy day all .

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 29/12/2009 12:43

Scatty, there is never a good time to be ill but I do feel extra sympathy for people who are poorly at Christmas, it just seems to be extra sad iykwim..
Hope you have a good day at work.

OverflowingFestiveMum · 29/12/2009 13:16

quick hello

We are home
I do find me family EXTREMELY stressful...
House in semi-chaos....
Our room lovely though so that is where I am hiding!
Need to rummage through freezer in hopes of finding random items that can be combined into some sort of meal for dinner

Have decided I really want a sewing machine...now just need to find one within budget(ie for about £2.50 LOL)

Feeling quite low...made worse by the fact that it is Christmas therefore I should be MORE jolly...

Need to eat some good healthy food, and have a few early nights I think...

Off to stalk ebay for a sewing machine I can't afford...

BBL when I have cheered myself up...

swanriver · 29/12/2009 14:09

IT IS POURING WITH RAIN (cosy or horrible take your pick)
Well, I was feeling serene until I started persuading/forcing the children to write thankyou notes (not even letters, just notes
as usual no-one can spell thankyou, grandma or present

3 written only 20 left to go

Scatty - thinking of the poor people who had strokes over Xmas - they are lucky to ohave you.

OFM - yes the lttle character flaws seem the last straw ... esp dhs who have different agendas about hols
Hope you find something in freezer - the meals are never-ending aren't they
Now I need to get ds2 out of the house before he turns into a pyscho-lego mutant
Others have had long walk

OP posts:
OverflowingFestiveMum · 29/12/2009 16:02

evening all

Feeling brighter!

swan good luck with the Thank You notes! It is mostly my parents and sister that I find stressful...at leastwhen I have to spend anytime with them LOL

Relatively calm afternoon

Cottage pie for dinner....

Early baths and bedsfor littlies I think,as they are all so over tired and tempers are fraying!

Planning nice calm couple of days playing games, eating healthy food and chilling...

Glad at least all the dashing around and trying to please relatives is over....

Doggy also very relieved tobe home - think she too found my family quite stressful LOL

BBtomorrow

swanriver · 29/12/2009 16:30

OFM - what did they do? I hope they liked your beautiful hampers.
Actually you don't have to tell me..I can imagine - my parents are kind lovely funny but sometimes very martian, my sister is thoughtful but bossy, my brother is a crusty bachelor and the Sils and Bils are a whole extra factor. It is the unintended snide remarks or the subtle criticisms of the way you live/ do things that wear one down, not the out and out rows at all
East, west, home is best for Christmas.

DONE
posted some thankyous
bought some Polish cakes
bought a new duvet locally
took ds2 on long walk
library closed brought books home again
took ds2 for haircut

all is well

Hello everyone

What a day...Had my (estranged) mother round and then a phone call to tell me my online banking has been breached....4 payments to 3 names to a total of £1k Bank have flagged it and are recovering it but...Blinking flup!

Tea Glad the package has arrived and I hope the mini's can get some use out of it.

House is a heap and we're having wall to wall Top Gear and Lego. That's a great Xmas!

Off to find Power Crystals

OverflowingFestiveMum · 29/12/2009 16:54

swan Thats it really. They didn't DO anything in particular....just the constant undercurrents of criticism...sometimes not so much undercurrent as frank comment in my Mother's case...according to whom I do a terrible job of raising my children (implied- not actually said of course...)
My dad specialises in winding all the dc up to fever pitch, then expecting them to suddenly sit still as mice when he decided he's had enough! And my sister remains the "golden girl" who obviously has abetter job than me, a cleaner/tidier house and a better raised daughter etc...and she never letsme forget it...sigh...
At the end of the day I just have different priorities to them - but of course as far as they are concerend I am wrong and they are right...

anyway...all over now and they are safely back at the end of the phone where they belong!

ruby hope you feel better soon

need to go sort baths out....BBL

OverflowingFestiveMum · 29/12/2009 16:56

GO Hi...well done surviving Mum's visit...
at banking...glad they're sorting it ...but still

scattyspice · 29/12/2009 17:08

at banking fraud Grouchy!

OFM - I find all these relatives a bit of a struggle too. At least its over for another year.

Ruby - lol nappy cakes.

swan - thanks you for saying that . One poor guy has a 4yo son! At least he managed to get home for Xmas day itself (then had to come back in ).

Dh has done a stirling job today, negotiated leathally icy pavements with DC (Ds has been showing me all his gymnastic skidds lol)to buy food and also sorted rubbish and made spoon puppets. What a guy! .

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 29/12/2009 17:51

Scatty your DH sounds like a star!!

GO I find this kind of fraud makes me so I think the people doing it feel it isn't as bad as face to face robbing someone but it isn't actually any different!

OFM, have you looked at freecycle? there could be one on there? people clearing out stuff to make room for christmas pressies? Cottage pie sounds great

Ruby hope you get an early night and manage to have a good sleep.

Swan, we had to bribe the boys to do their letters, one letter = 5 minutes on the wii

wendyhappysmile · 29/12/2009 18:01

Hey girls
I am still ill! Just back from Doctor who was appalled and said it was worst sore throat he'd seen in years and how had I endured it?! LOL. Got some antibiotics, double dose! I hate taking antibiotics.

Thank you cards. Today is the first day I have been dressed since Xmas day, and only cos I had to go the surgery. It's certainly made me slow down.

BBtomorrow

TeaMonster · 29/12/2009 18:57

Oh Wendy Poor you, we just all have man flu - we are so pants we missed the squequal due to traffic and late start!!!

Scatty what a shame a 4 year old son, just shows you to live life like today is the last love wise.

Swan you sound very together Mrs

OFM Mine was £7.50 off ebay and then £28 to service it. I just got a bog standard solid old one!!

Greyskull Welcome back chick. Hope the boys are well.

Groucy I would be pretty peeved

Ruby Hope you manage the early night

We are all shattered, even though we all sleep like the dead!!!! I have just mopped the floor, we are hopping for a relaxing day in tomorrow, although I have an ironing pile that seems to be breading!!

Simply · 29/12/2009 20:56

Hello to all. We're back from our trip and managed to get most of the shopping we wanted to get (I think!)

Right. I'm going to sign off and catch up with the thread tomorrow. Nos da. Good night.

swanriver · 29/12/2009 22:31

What are Power Crystals Grouchy?
I have just bought ds1 an educational computer game which is meant to involve algebra and programming logic etc called Crystal Rainforest - could it be the same thing you are seeking?

Or is it a Grouchy remedy of some kind?
I can't believe that bank fraud happened to you, you hear about these things but still

Wendy - what a horrible sore throat that sounds. Have you tried the children's liquid nurofen as well, that's one of things that worked for dh [years ago]when even codeine failed? It hurt him to swallow it, but it went straight to the inflammation. I think in the end he was so desperate he went to the homeopath though...after 2 bouts.

Simply - glad you are back safe and sound.
What were you shopping for?

I have started on my New Year resolution already and started working out how to use this computer. Am reading a helpful tome called Computing for Seniors
This eve read a chapter and tried out the PAINT section

Ruby and Greyskull - enjoy the new babies.

TM - we are all sleep sleep sleeping too - tis nice, though I wouldn't mind a burst of manic energy now and again

Just popping on before I shut down the pc (thereby denying ds and dd the use of the internet as they should be in BED!)

swan I got some storage boxes, a new lunch box and those lunch box cooler things, some Christmas card making stuff, drinking glasses, a bar of nice chocolate, a tin of biccies as a gift as we're going to my dsis' in a few days and some Christmas puddings from Lakeland (and there must have been other stuff in there as well as I shopped in Lakeland 3 times over the last 2 days. To be fair, there was a sale on.) I spent an absolute age in John Lewis deciding which bath towels to buy from the sale section. In the end I got some pink ones which I'll keep for guests, I think. I decided against the lovely huge bath sheets as they're a bit too big for our needs. I need to have a sort out of our airing cupboard first, though. I bought some make-up stuff for dd for her birthday in a couple of months, too.

Dd bought a school bag, a going-out dress (considering she is only 14 she does seem to go out a lot), a hoodie, some vest tops, a t-shirt, some about 4" high heeled shoes (not my fault, I wasn't with her, I think I was shirt shopping with dh!) and I don't know what else. Ds got a flying helicopter toy (he's 16 but is obviously a big kid at heart) and some speakers or somesuch and something to do with classical music. Dh got 2 shirts for work.

Right. I'd better shut this down or my two will stay awake, I'm sure! See you tomorrow!
