Which Dyson ?

Hi ladies
I'm lloking at getting a new hoover as my current one died on xmas eve !! I've decided to splash out and get a dyson, especially as there seem to be quite a few in the sales. The problem is which one ? I don't really want to spend more than £200.
Any advice ??
Many Thanks

Forgot to say I would prefer a cyclinder rather than an upright ! x

None of them, buy a Miele cylinder.

msrisotto · 27/12/2009 17:17

I really like my animal one which is useful 'cos my kitten fur sticks on my sofa. Love it being a cylinder one as i'm tall and it extends taller than any upright hoover

dyson are rubbish - i have two. Miele or Sebo.

skymoo · 27/12/2009 18:02

Dyson Animal here - only had one problem with it, and that was after I hoovered up a necklace - the engineer came out within the week and as we had 5 years guarantee still in date, it didn't cost a thing

My only other experience of hoovers was with Electrolux baggy style uprights, so the Dyson was amazing in comparison

Neagle · 27/12/2009 19:59

I agree with some of the others - get a Miele. Best vacuum cleaner I've ever bought. My sister hates her Dyson and loves my Miele!

ilovemydogandmrobama · 27/12/2009 20:03

I was on the Dyson trial and got an animal Dyson. It's fantastic! Manages to pick up dog hairs and copes well with carpet, floorboards and tiles.

emsyj · 31/12/2009 13:11

Yup, Miele cylinder for me too. They're not even expensive. Mine has been bashed and abused to hell for 5 years (pulled about and picked up by the hose, dragged up and down stairs by the hose, dropped down the stairs numerous times etc), has been moved house long distance 4 times and shows no signs of giving up the ghost. I don't know a single person with a Dyson who hasn't had to pay for an expensive repair/buy a new one within 2 years, but that's just my experience and as I have said on several other threads, I am a Miele evangelist!

ShirleyKnott · 31/12/2009 13:11

i have a the tiny ball ones
LOVE it

emsyj · 31/12/2009 13:14

Oh, from memory our Miele cylinder was well under £200, possibly £160ish?? Full price, not on special offer. I hoover tiles, parquet and carpet with it quite successfully and it doesn't scratch wood floors (we had floorboards in our previous house) or parquet. Bagged is better in my view - otherwise all the dust goes everywhere when you empty the cylinder (as I discovered when I borrowed a friend's extremely heavy Dyson when I ran out of Miele hoover bags on a Sunday evening and urgently needed to hoover up some wood dust when DH had sanded the floors). I much prefer being able to seal up and throw out the whole bag and be done with it.

[going away to mind my own business now emoticon]

crockydoodle · 31/12/2009 17:52

Just to say, I have had a dyson in the past and the miele build quality is far superior.

rhapsodyinblue · 01/01/2010 10:35

Miele, Miele, Miele - we have the cat and dog one and it's brilliant - far better than a Dyson, and lighter.

carocaro · 01/01/2010 10:42

Ditch the Dyson and the Miele!!!!

SEBO is what you want! German made.

Good Housekeeping magazine top reccomend.

Get one from John Lewis.

It's upright, does not look as if it will do the job, but boy oh boy it's FRIGGING FAB!

Our house it a complete mud/dust fest and this is excellent.

It even has a hose on the side that you can take off mid vacuum and do the side etc, without having to stop and flip hoses and attachements etc.

malovitt · 01/01/2010 10:55

I've just put the Dyson in the car to be dumped at the recycling centre.

It's crap - the worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had.
Don't get one.

motherlovebone · 01/01/2010 20:31

Miele!

tispity · 01/01/2010 20:55

another vote for the Animal!

ChilloHippi · 01/01/2010 21:02

None! We had the dyson animal allergy and it was rubbish. We have a HenryHound now and it is great.

DreamTeamGirl · 01/01/2010 21:12

I have loved both Dyson & Miele, and currently love my Miele Cat & Dog

But malovitt you arent seriously dumping a dyson??? List it on Freecycle, you will get your hand bitten off and make someone's year.

ScaredOfCows · 01/01/2010 21:53

Miele - oh yeah!

mejon · 01/01/2010 22:04

Hate my Dyson Animal - bloody useless on carpet - the brush thing rarely spins despite regularly cleaning the filters. I still have an old Goblin cylinder cleaner that I bought around 18 years ago and it cleans much better than the Dyson.

NewYearNewKnickers0nMaHead · 01/01/2010 23:20

Dyson Cylinder ones are shite, my friend had one and she agreed.

I have an upright Dyson and it is fab.

Taramuddle · 01/01/2010 23:46

I have a dyson stowage (well something like that) it is a bagless bag of shite! They may not loose suction as they've no bag but they just have less suction in the first place. The brushes don't spin round properly even when the head is cleaned of hair. I wouldn't buy one again & wish I could replace mine.
