Anyone got a Bissell Carpet Cleaner?? Help please

Hi all,

I just bought a Bissell Aroma Pro (reduced to £147 - woohoo) online and thought I'd get some extra cleaning formula to go with it, so when it arrives I can get going before I get bored of the whole idea while its still new and exciting.

But, I'm confused by their website and after speaking to a useless guy and then being on hold for 30 minutes I've given up and thought I'd come and ask the experts here instead!

So, has anyone tried:
'Professional Deep cleaning Formula' - is this more effective than the other cleaners? The sales guy said he 'thought it might be but not really sure'...
'Lavender/orange extract cleaners' - are these very stinky? I mean I need to clean the whole house and 3 piece suite, will it be overpowering?
'Multi-Allergen Removal' - is this horribly chemically? I do have a dust/pet hair allergy (prev house owners had cats) but wouldn't regular steam cleaning still get rid of allergens?

Any help appreciated!

don't know about the aroma pro but i have a bissell pro heat (about 8 years old now).

i haven't used the shampoos for years, i always use vinegar mixed with water in mine.

it smells like a chippy until dry then just smells nice and fresh - i hate the smell of the shampoo and don't like using chemicals as we have an asthmatic in the house, not to mention a dog with skin allergies!

I have the blue bottle whichever one that is, the pet one I bought out of desperation when I couldn't get the blue one and it stinks!

The smell goes after a day so don't worry too much about it, the main thing is getting the carpets clean.

If you spill anything, bissell it up immediately. The machine is a carpet cleaner not a stain remover so don't leave anything.

We don't wear shoes in our house and the colour of the water after cleaning is scary

Thanks for the advice, we don't wear shoes in the house either - altho previous owners did - and with DS vomiting and spreading food round I think the carpets definitely need cleaning!

It comes with some lavender-y stuff so I guess I'll use that up and see how I go.

I like the idea of just using vinegar, but as the carpets have never been shampooed (at least in the 4 years that we've been here) I'd like to be really thorough when its 1st done - I'll know to avoid the stinky pet one though!

ooh, i saw an infomercial for a big bissell cleaner and i was very impressed. are they worth the money? this one was about £300

We have one and use the blue bottle stuff too. The lavendar one was nice. Can't say I notice any difference between the normal and deep cleaning formulas. You can get Bissell formula in Argos.
Ours is like liquid mud when I do the utility room. It's a bit shocking!

Millarkie · 19/12/2009 19:09

We use the blue bottle too, with a pro heat. Ours has been fab - has taken out bloodstains (cats brought a bunny in) and cleaned up after all types of child-related accidents.

BooBooChicken -love the name, mine was bought directly from Bissell and I bought a "reconditioned" one, when it arrived it was less than a month old which means someone had it, for some reason returned it and I bought it for a nice discounted price

It it a 2x pro heat thing, very easy to use, fill and empty.

mulledfruitshoot my water too is like liquid mud, it is awful.

Thanks for the recommendations! The cleaner arrived yesterday, but we spent 5 hours stuck in the car in snow last night and then today had to do food shopping so haven't had a chance to play with it yet!

I'll report back on how the water looks afterwards, sadly all our carpets are a hideous deep green so not sure they'll look much better!
