tog ratings - will two rubbish quilts add up to a good one?

I have two old light summer quilts on DS2s bed. Do the togs add together or will it just be like having a heavy (but not warm) quilt.

Not sure I've explained that very well!

yes yes, the togs add up

our most expensive quilt is actually designed that way - you button them both together for winter and just use 1 for summer

Oh good. I was worried that he's been freezing for the past few nights! Have made him wear an extra vest and socks in bed tonight and have even resorted to a hot water bottle.

Depends if they are very old synthetic ones (where the fibres have got so crushed that there are no pockets of air that keep you warm)

Old feather ones can be washed and refluffed and should be ok

Yes we bought expensive quilts that have a summer 3 tog and an autumn 6 tog that can be put together for a winter 9 tog.

Should have just bought two cheap rubbish ones - works just as well.

A Fool and his money.
