help choosing colour of rug, table cover, curtains

Through a series of coincidences (ie tempting sale prices ), my living room is predominantly dark brown - sofas, curtains, coffee table, dinig table n chairs. I have wooden floors (dark-ish again ) and have a large cream and brown rug. The rug was meant to have gone under the coffee table, but the coffee table is usually kept pushed to one side, so my daughter has room to play on the rug. I am planning to change the rug, curtains and buy a table cover for the dining table. Please do give me some suggestions - I need cheap and cheerful stuff, bearing in mind that with a toddler in the house I will probably need to change it all in a couple of years.

Predominantly brown sounds good -- easy to change colours of things to complement them!

How about a trip to Ikea, not particularly original but they do some good cheap 'mid-century modern' inspired prints and some nice nordic-flavoured things that would go really well with brown -- thinking bright orangey-red, cream, nice shades of bright leaf green or dark green.

I think burgundy and cream also look great with brown if you're after something less bright/more elegant ? HTH?

oh definitely looking to brighten it up a bit, and also make it appear a bit lighter...there's too much dark everywhere right now, in my opinion! have spent alot of time trawling online, haven't found anything suitable so far.
green sounds great, had not thought of that. so far i was looking for burgundy-cream combinations.
any more suggestions would be lovely!

Or, nice ikea rugs that would suit brown this one, this one, even this one

of course could not find nice leafy green they had last year ? hope you get some other ideas

we have got one brown wall, other 3 and up the stairs cream, brown rug, but a red sofa! Looks ace!
