My tumble drier has died, please help me choose a new one

Need a new tumble drier.

I generally line dry or put stuff on the laundry maid (if only she were real) inside.

Sometimes I really need to catch up or dry something very quickly so need the tumble drier occasionally.

It'll be out in the brick built utility room rather than inside the main house.

Recommendations?

Go to your local independent appliance shop, pref one that has reconditioned stuff.

Mine had some nice Miele tumble driers, originally £500+, which had been reconditioned with 6 month guarantees, for £100. If it's just going in the utility room it doesn't need to look flash!

Recommend the Which? guides or Good housekeeping as these appliances have been tested by real people. Bosch, Miele and Siemens always come out good - you pay more but are overall better.

Watch the energy consumption rating, anti bobling and any other special feature.

I bought a Hoover condenser dryer after my 17yr old Hotpoint died. The Hover was total crap, after many service visits, they got sick of me whinging and refunded me. The door didn't fit properly, the condensor was rubbish and made that much condensation that the walls went black.

I replaced it with a Bosch condenser dryer, it's fab, is about 5yrs old now, doesn't need venting, doesn't cause condensation and it has a sensor so it stops as soon as the clothes are dry, which saves electricity.

gives me a bit to think about - at least it's sunny today. The clothes might freeze on the line though.

I have the John Lewis version of Ixia's one I think, has a square door?

Anyhoo, a John Lewis heat pump condenser dryer is the bees knees.

GHK mag rated it highly as did which, but this was 5 yrs ago and I'm sure things have moved on a little...
