I saw a (daytime telly) makeover show where there were two little m/f twins sharing a room, they made it all a 'castle' theme, with a princess tower with a [have to say quite scary shade of] pink wall, drapes and glittery stuff - I take it the girl was very girly , and the boy's side was all knight-themed with red and silver, a rich shade of blue wall etc. the carpet was neutral, can't remember it might have been laminate (?) but the idea was a lovely one. I'm sure a red carpet would be fine, doubt if that would cause you any issues! the other two walls at the ends of the room were a neutral colour with castle rampart thingys on, some sort of stick-on border I think.

Otherwise would it be worth coming up with some sort of transport theme, car bedding, hmm will have to go and research that one a bit...

lookee here!

for the transport idea, there are almost literally hundreds of cars, JCB's and trains available, and there are some horse-and carriage or princessy carriage type things for girls. stereotypical, of course but lovely all the same!
