Mildew on buggy - ANNOYED- Hauck Jeep Shopper 6

Hi there

As a new mum, I don't know much, but I am a little annoyed as the other day I had been out with our little man in his buggy, it had rained, but I had managed to get the raincover on, and it had dried by the time we had got it back in the boot. I took it out today, only about 3 days later and there are literally spots of mildew everywhere, on that sofy handlebar, on the main seat on the hood part, everywhere!

Now, we wern't entirely happy with the buggy anyway as since our DS has got heavier it doesn't seem to steer as well, but we are saving up for a new one, so we thought that when we have our second baby (eventually!) we could use this one for the lighter tot!

Now it's got mildew on it so easily, I was wondering whether I should ring up and complain to the company? or just try my hardest to clean it? I thought that all buggies should have been scotch guarded to a certain degree, or am I being totally niave??

Also I wonder whether anyone else has had a problem with the same buggy, Its the Hauck Jeep Shopper 6 with carset too (green and redish). Please do let me know.

Thanks :D

I'm not going to accuse you of being niave but I will point out that you can buy fungicide at all major DIY stores to remove it and then just wash and air dry it (folded out)

All buggies go mouldy if you fold them up wet and don't air them. Scotch guard does not protect against mould, only stains btw!

Hi there thanks for this, and thank you for the product to get rid of mildew. May I point out that the buggy was dry when when we folded it up when we put it into the boot though! so in retrospec it shouldn't have gone to mildew if it wasn't wet and and was folded up!

So you see I am wondering whether it is worth ringing up the company and complaining? It is the only buggy we own, and he is getting heavier now, so to carry him around whilst trying to shop in town, would be a pain.

Could anyone else shed some light on this?

:D

Oopps forgot to add in - scotch guard as I read on the internet - How does it work?
As a final treatment, the material is finished with a unique fluorochemical that puts a protective shield around the fibers so they repel watery and oily liquids.

However - would this be safe enough to put on a childs buggy? Also is the fungicide ok to be putting on the buggy? Silly question I know, but would there be something different I could do?

Thank you so much for your reply. :D

i keep reading this as midwife on buggy-now that would be annoying

So long as it is dry before you use it and don't allow treated area to be chewed etc. Warm soapy water will work too though.

AbiBub · 19/11/2009 11:02

Hi there

Thanks for that, I might just try the soapy water in the meantime, as my DS pretty much chews on everything I don't think I will be using anythig harsher than that! whilst I work out what to do, not happy though.

Again, if anyone has any extra to add to this that would help me then please do.

:D

I think I would be pretty annoyed too. I have put damp buggies in boot lots of times and they have never gone mouldy
Its worth a call I reckon.
I dont do buggys anymore but is there a buggy and pram board here on MN -those girls would know if there is. Some people are quite buggy obsessed!

AbiBub · 19/11/2009 11:38

Ah thanks dreamteamgirl, that makes me feel tonnes better, we don't ask for much as mums, these things are sent to try us! will give them a ring, funnily enough, Argos are no longer selling this Hauck model!! thanks for the advice!

Again if anyone has anything they wish to add then please do!

Thanks for the replies, it didn't seem to be wet when we put it in the boot, hence why I was so confused!

Anyhow, I have been on the phone to argos today, managed to get a credit note for a new one so just looking around at a few now!

Oh what fun!

Thanks
