What to do with wires?

I'm trying to sort out all the junk we have lying around and in cupboards all over the house. We have hundreds of wires/ leads. Some are probably still important. I'm piling them up and will get DH to tell me what to keep. What can I do with the ones we don't need? Just bin? And any ideas for storing the ones we keep so I don't get in the mess we're in now. Usually, whenever a lead is needed we have to turn the entire house upside down to find it... this is the same with just about every other item in the house, but I'll stick with the wire problem for now.

The cables you don't want- Freegle them. The ones you are keeping, cable-tie the relevant cables together into coherent snakes and then label the plugs. Simple, cheap, and it works.

Do you mean wires behind the TV etc or wires as in chargers etc?

We have hundreds of electrical gadgets that all have thier own chargers and transfer cables to the PC. I got so fed up with having a drawer full of tangled leads and spending ages finding the right one. Get a pack of resealable sandwich bags and label the front of the bag. Ie DH Mobile charger, Psp Charger, Ipod transfer wire and then bag them up.

Its sooo much easier to find what you want

I've been round the house recently and collected all dh's cables together. We had 7 (!!!!) boxes worth. Dh then went through it over a couple of weeks (left it cluttering up the lounge so he had to keep walking past it). An awful lot were unidentifiable (lived together 15 years and never chucked any out) so could go. Some were deemed useful to somebody and got recycled (dh's work has a "junk" box). The remainder got bagged up into sandwich bags. We now have 1 box worth.
As for labelling we have a label maker and most plugs are labelled with a brief description of what they're for. Hugely useful (if a bit unsightly).
