Ideas for rearranging the kids bedrooms

DS1 is 8
DD is 6
DS2 is 4

DS1 has the biggest room and it is very big.

DD and DS2 have small rooms which are the same size give or take an inch or two.

Going into DD's room to put her clothes away it just struck me that she has trouble keeping the room tidy as it is so small though DH just says she doesn't tidy up.

DS1's room is always a tip.

DS2's room is the tidiest.

I want 2 of them to share the biggest room but which two and should it be long term?

Long term, it'll have to be the boys, surely?

At some point, the girl will want her own space and it's only right she has it, I think.

Boys in largest room. Girl in one of the other rooms.

youngest 2 in the short term because in the longer term it will have to be the boys.

Also the older they get the smaller their stuff gets. So younger ones big room with lots of toys IYSWIM

I didn't find this happened.

I feel that DD and DS1 are still young enough that they could share a room and at tea time she wants to sleep with DS1 tonight as she doesn't like sleeping alone in the dark.

DS1 only went in the big room as he was our only child and I didn't think we were having any more.

I feel frustrated that DS1 doesn't keep his room even minutely tidy and then complains it is too big to keep tidy. I asked him to put 1 item of clothes away today and that didn't go down too well.

juule, what toys do your older dc have?

Older kids, playstation, tv, larger clothes than little children, wardrobes stuffed with homework, school/college books, novels, lego, models. Older girls, make-up etc. Boxes under the bed with stuff they want to keep but won't let us put in the loft. Shoes.

Fabster, put them all in the same big room for a while.

Occasionally they have slept together. DS1 on the top bunk, DD in the double on the bottom and DS2 on his mattress on the floor. I could get his bed in there properly but one bedroom would have to be used as a clothes room.

I am like the idea though.

Put your two boys in the biggest room and give your DD the other two rooms - one for sleeping and one for playing.

Well we had 3 sharing at one time!

Juule I am ruthless at chucking stuff (comes from having 4 dc in a tiny house I think) and no way will they be having large TV's in their bedrooms, they will be thrilled if we ever allow them to have portables.

Not large tvs. But they still take up space.

The DSSs (14, 12) take up more and more space all the time - DSS1 especially. He has absolutely no innate sense of boundaries or personal space. Grrrrr.

Definitely the older they get the more space they take.

I'm sure mine will be begging to move out at 16 then
