limescale in dishwasher

Oh boy I hate living in a hard water area!

I have already started the habit of running through the washing machine on hot with a plastic ball full of vinegar. Is there anything similar that I can do with the washing machine? I can already see a white coating on the elements at the bottom.

Cup of vinegar and run the cycle with empty machine. Good luck - I hate hard water too.

Daft questions alert - do you put the cup of vinegar upright? In the top or bottom of the dishwasher? How does the vinegar come out?

I put the cup upright in the bottom half - usually in the cutlery holder.

Thank you!

Hi MrsTittleMouse, you can buy a descaler for washing machines in supermarkets, I use Waitroses own, works fine. Alternatively you can buy one where you add the descaler powder to every wash - this prevents your clothes from getting hard as well, so you need less fabric conditioner.
