Ikea sofas any good?

Maybe a bit off message, but I figured mumsnet had a whole heap of people to ask...

are Ikea sofas any good? I'm desperate to get a new sofa but have no idea where to start, and was wondering if anyone had an Ikea ektorp sofa and could report whether it was ok and had lasted ok?

our current sofa was from sofa workshop and has not lasted very long before going very saggy.

We have an ikea ektorp sofa with washable covers-still looking good and feeling pretty good after about 5 years.

ektorp is good and buy a set of spare covers too

however the ektorp armchair is too big

erktorp here as well. its err 4years old? am on second set of covers though. my kids are right mucky monsters.

We've had a Karlanda two seater and a corner job. Been brilliant through two bouncy kids. We even got the arm mended by Ikea (after 4 years) when it knacked up-due to bouncing!!
Great cheap kid job.
The bloke who fixed it says ikea was well made for the oney...me liked it cheap due to kids and then chuck it when they get sensible.

Do buy extra covers though!.same colour so you can mix and match bits as they get pen on them!

I love my ektorp armchair we could not have fitted in a 2 seater sofa and still opened the door. It's just the right size for dd and ds to snuggle up together (bless)

I have the leather ones (I don't know the name sorry!) they are over two years old and the leather is still unstretched and unmarked despite the dc, dogs and cats best efforts. The stuffing has not compressed or sagged, the frame is still strong and no wobbling...

I think that, as long as you don't go for thier £90 one they are pretty well made! We had a sofa workshop one previously and it had to be binned after two years as it just gave up in every way a sofa can give up!

Have had sofa workshop as well and binned it after a few yrs.
We have ektorp 3 seater ,wish they did a bigger version of it as it is very comfy. We have red cover for winter and white for summer. Be warned though the covers need to be ironed which is pita.

I want the stockholm one .

I've got a couple of ikea leather ones - nearly three years old and look almost new. We use them every day (only two of us, baby just born so now three). Also have the ektorp armchair which now comes in a smaller version and is v comfy. I had the klippan sofa in my first flat which was ok for a student but not comfy for slouching in (too firm and back wasn't high enough)

We got a huge IKEA sofa 9 years ago (not sure of name, sorry), which is the comfiest thing I have ever sat on and must have been at least half the price of elsewhere. They don't do it any more and one of my biggest regrets is that we didn't get spare covers for it, as our darling cats trashed the cover when they were kittens - so we bought another one when we moved house. Although apparently there are people online who will cut new covers from the existing ones for you - rather wish I'd known that before. Anyway, sofa is currently residing in our spare room where we periodically sit on it and say 'aaah', but I think is destined for my sis as she's planning on buying next year - so can then get it covered.

So, I think they're great, but do get spare covers if you can. The fact that they are machine washable is extremely helpful too. Just not manic-kitten proof, sadly.

Oh, and we bought another IKEA sofa and chairs last year - which gives you some idea of how pleased we were. Comfy although not quite the same as my dream sofa before! Got spare covers this time, though!

we've got two 3 seater Klippan sofa's, I don't think they make them anymore but we love ours they're really comfy.

I managed to pick up some cover from ebay for £20 each.

We've decided to get a new sofa when the DC stop spilling stuff. (probably never then)

We used to have an Ikea sofa and it was very good and covers were hard wearing. Unfortunately, DH sat on it a bit too hard and the base of the frame snapped .

The Sofa Workshop sofas we have had have been absolutely appalling quality - we were given a replacement after the covers of our original sofa shrank by about 50% in a cool wash. The replacement sofa we received is not much better TBH - very disappointing quality for the price.

oooh i too am tempted by a ektorp.

I have just been to friends new house, and was greatly admiring her new sofa. Turns out, it is the same sofa she had in her last house, bought in 2001 with just new covers added!

It looks and feels like new - i was well impressed!

We've got two, one is discontinued the other is a bed sofa, can't remember the name so that's not terribly helpful, but it is the most comfortable bed imaginable. Neither me nor dh are short (178 +185 cm) but we both fit onto it. We don't mind giving up our bed when we have visitors it is that good.
It is called the Karlstadt. We got it here in Switzerland and it is blooming heavy due to the iron bit in the bottom.

We have a Karlanda 3-seater, just looked on the website and it doesn't look like they make it any more . It must be 6 years old and still going strong, I wash the seat/cushion covers every 6 months or so and they're good as new.
Very comfy, and is in use daily!
